Quoting Sabine Hossenfelder as anything just outs you as anti-science.

Quick question: Is she wrong?

The previous post made a point, which you totally sidestepped.

I have no opinion on Sabing Hossenfelder either way, but I get the impression that physics has largely stalled over the last few decades.

So... I'm just wondering, Is she wrong?

that's like the most important feature of a portable computer

Portables may not be battery powered, they may use a wall outlet. For example one can get a case for a Mac mini M4 or M6 or an Intel / ASUS NUC and move it from a desk at home to a desk at the office and back again. That too is a portable computer. Its a laptop computer that is battery powered. "Portable" goes back to suitcase sized IBM PCs affectionately referred to as "luggable" by users, and the original 1984 Mac.

Windows-only Aarch64 stuff. Nova Lake is almost here anyhow. If I spend that much, I want more than a overheating windows laptop.

Nova Lake needs recompiled software to truly realize its performance. The apx architecture is backwards compatible to x86_64 but software needs to be rebuilt to apx specifically to access new registers, new instructions, etc and get all the performance benefits.

You are an absolute fucking idiot if you think Ilan Omar, Abdul El-Sayed, and others of their ilk would not make a hard push for Sharia as soon as they felt they had a shot of doing so. It's a gradual push. The Islamists are smart enough to know their anti-American ideology is highly unpopular and thus will have to go slow with it at first.

Source: thousands of years of history. Whenever a sizable portion of Muslims invade a nation, they eventually conquer it. Turkey and Iran for example were once free nations.

Comment Is streaming still a thing? (Score 1) 54

I used to think game streaming was just stupid and wasteful yet in a way this now makes sense. Nobody can afford hardware because massive corporations are hoarding everything while other massive corporations rollback production in order to cater to massive corporations while intentionally exacerbating supply shortages.

With hardware now out of reach those same corporations to get to turn around and offer the plebs a "deal" of a lifetime to pay more for the privilege of renting games by the hour.

Submission + - After 9 years of waiting - Will Tesla roadster live up to the hype? (wsj.com)

schwit1 writes: The new Roadster, a sequel to Tesla’s first car, was first unveiled in November 2017. Tesla has accepted reservations for the sports car off and on since, with hopeful owners paying at least $50,000, and sometimes much more, to get on the wait list.

Tesla originally said production would begin in 2020. That didn’t happen.

Tesla is now moving forward with what is likely to be its most expensive model in company history even as its core auto business has taken a back seat. Musk has said that the new Roadster will be the final human-driven vehicle that Tesla ever produces because the company’s future lies in autonomy, artificial intelligence and robotics. The automaker didn’t respond to a request for comment.

Bringing an ultracostly, niche vehicle to market could improve the company’s cash flow while longer-term bets, like humanoid robotics, might take a while to pay off, said Jon McNeill, a former Tesla president.

“I think Ferrari proves the point that you can make a lot of money in the automotive business at low volumes, at a high price point,” McNeill said.

Musk in 2017 said the car would be able to go from zero to 60 miles an hour in 1.9 seconds, top 250 miles an hour and drive up to 620 miles on a full charge. He upped the ante in 2024 by saying that the Roadster would hit 60 mph from zero in less than one second. “And that is the least interesting part,” he said.
