They've been so distracted by silliness like
NASA's Mars lander airbag technology.
I believe they meant introducing new types of gadgets, not just make existing ones faster or more efficient.
Putting a hardware guy in charge of Apple might help the company return to its roots as a hardware-first company. They've been so distracted by silliness like trying to squeeze more money out of the App Store, iBooks Store, etc., resulting in fines and antitrust decisions going against them in the EU and the U.S. on so many occasions, mostly because the company has strayed too far away from its core mission — to make great hardware and build operating systems to support that hardware and produce a great user experience.
Build a great product, and everything else will follow naturally.
To be fair, that's nothing against Tim Cook. He always struck me as having a good head on his shoulders and being generally a decent human being. And he held the company together through a tough transition, losing one of its founders. That's not an easy task.
But Mr. Ternus has, in some ways, an even tougher job, showing the markets that Apple is more than just a company that sells phones. I don't envy him. But I do look forward to seeing the direction that he takes the company.
Anyone remember when Trump did his first tariff spree, Amazon was going to show a tariff surcharge on its orders. So you could tell how much of the bill was due to tariffs.
Trump had a fit. Fake News! Democrat Traitors! Socialism!
Guess what Amazon did or didn't do? It would have been useful about now -- you could put in a claim for those surcharges. But do you think Bezos would risk the ire of Trump?
If the US could have elections during the civil, WWI, and WWII, I can't imagine even the R's agreeing to not having elections for an attack. And I don't expect one either.
More to the point, the Constitution doesn't say anything about extending current elected terms in the absence of elections, so Trump simply won't be President on Jan 21, 2028, The 20th Amendment says “the terms of the president and vice president shall end at noon” on January 20. Similarly on January 3 for all House members and some Senate members up for election. According to the 2020 article below, this situation may result in the remaining Senators choosing a President from amongst themselves. Traditionally the longest-serving majority senator is chosen as president pro tempore of the chamber.
Who takes control if there is no presidential election this year?
>Some were able to pass the tariff cost in their products. Most were not, especially the small companies and certainly not the small companies that went out of business.
You DO know that over 96% of the tariffs were paid for by consumers, and not the importers, don't you? "Some" my ass.
The President is the closest of all elected officials to the People
No, the president is elected by the states. Members of Congress are elected by the people.
Some have voiced an opinion that the president should be elected by the people, but so far, we have not yet amended the constitution to permit that.
Yes, it is the most corrupt administration in American history.
However, you do not have a full picture of the damage those tariffs caused. They totally screwed many small businesses that will never get back what they lost. A lot of businesses sourced their raw materials and other products from outside the U.S. The tariffs caused them to be unable to afford that stuff. So they had to reject the shipments which meant they had nothing to sell. Try accounting for the business you lost because you had nothing to sell. Also, many small companies went titsup because of those tariffs. The owners will never be made whole.
Now if you took the $166 Billion and divide by roughly 300 million Americans, then we all get about $553. However, you did not pay the tariffs, Companies did. Some were able to pass the tariff cost in their products. Most were not, especially the small companies and certainly not the small companies that went out of business.
Number 1 Rule of el Bunko: he destroys everything he touches. And the Maggots made that asshole president, at least they get to pay for higher gasoline for their stupidity.
Something can be 'technically superior' but still not the 'best' solution, because 'solution' includes a lot of factors beyond 'technological superiority.'
100%. If the superior solution always won, Microsoft Windows would have been relegated to the dustbin long before Windows 95 existed (and we wouldn't be dealing with the disaster pile that is Windows 11 today). Similarly if the superior solution always won we'd have high speed rail in the US connecting all our major cities, but that hasn't happened either.
'solution' includes a lot of factors beyond 'technological superiority.'
Including whose wheels you're willing to grease to get your inferior solution a leg up on the ones that are better.
You may want to support development. So that it, you know, does not go away. Obviously, that idea is altruistic and not everybody understands that concept.
My sister keeps a horse -- rides nearly every day.
Sport driving will not go away just the same.
With this attitude, we are never getting our flying cars. I'm starting to think The Jetsons was fiction.

I never had any real problems with floppy disks. But I always bought quality brands, both for disks and for drives. There was a lot of bad quality disks and drives around back then.
