X is still bleeding users more every day. They did manage to get the debt off of the balance sheets by moving it to Tesla shareholders though but you can imagine what that means for Tesla.

Tesla is going to collapse because it is a car company no matter how many times musk says it isn't and it can't sell cards profitably without government subsidies. Those subsidies are gone now.

Europe and South America and Africa are all going to tell musk to go pound sand because he has shown himself to be a national security risk. That means nowhere to expand starlink and it means that competitors will rise up.

Now if America remains fascist and Trump gets a third term then musk will not immediately implode. On the other hand of trump doesn't get a third term then musk is going to lose all access to the government money he's going to need. That means starlink goes away in North America too. SpaceX goes away because the government contracts that sustain it dry up because he's a national security risk.

The only thing left is AI and all of his engineers got poached by better companies.

Now the ruling class has solidarity so they will make sure Elon lives comfortably his entire life. But he will never be a trillionaire.

Finally on the off chance that Trump gets his third term then the people who are going to be in charge behind Trump are going to help maneuver Elon and eventually elon's going to get thrown out a window like they do in Russia. Trump getting a third term is the worst possible thing to happen to Elon because instead of living out his days comfortably as a billionaire albeit a modest one he's going to get assassinated in the court intrigue of emperor Trump's Court.

Tough to say. With that much money he might have ripped off billionaires.

Somebody made a good point which is that Trump was introducing his own daughters to Jeffrey Epstein when he would have known Epstein was a predator.

Now maybe Trump's daughters didn't get dragged into Epstein's world but it wouldn't surprise me if some rich assholes daughters did and if that's not the reason Epstein got popped after all these years.

You can screw over as many little old ladies and steal as many pensions and 401ks as you want but if you start to fuck with the real money people then just like Bernie Madoff and Elizabeth Holmes your ass is going to prison.

And with the amount of dirt Epstein would have had he was never going to stay in prison very long.

Mind you I have no doubt that he would have known he could finagle a pardon, which makes his death by suicide extremely suspicious. I mean they just put his accomplice out on work release.

My worry is that we end up with the type of "peace talks" we got when Trump sent Kushner over to Israel to broker peace between them and the Palestinians. What we got was a farce of a treaty that only aggravated tensions as the Palestinians weren't even allowed to be present during the treaty's crafting. Just like Ukraine is being kept out of these talks.

Basically, my money is on them settling up conditions that aren't even close to being something Ukraine could accept and then Trump getting angry and blaming Ukraine for not accepting his brilliance on the matter.

Yes, finally a sensible use is being reported here. LLMs are pretty good at summation and categorization. I have a pretty big media library I'm thinking of using local models to categorize. Since it doesn't much matter how long it takes, I can underclock everything and let it just plod along.

Giving preferential treatment, _if_ you benefit from it _and if_ you're big enough to move the market, is. The latter, for Apple, in the US at least, sure. The former, unless OpenAI and all the others paid up Apple, and xAI said no, then no.

That doesn't follow. There are other ways Apple could benefit by keeping down Grok. They have their own AI investments, for example.

Comment This is just another version of recycling (Score 1) 72

A complete bit of bullshit nonsense to make you feel like something is being done about the droughts and other impacts of climate change that have become too noticeable to pretend don't exist.

Also the United Kingdom like every country on the planet wants to open up as many data centers to run AI to replace employees as fast as they possibly can and those things guzzle water. They don't need to before everybody jumps all over me but they absolutely do guzzle the water even if they don't need to.

We're all going to lose our jobs (including the plumbers since who the fuck is going to hire those plumbers when we are all unemployed) and we're going to lose our jobs to an AI that gets the water and electricity we used to enjoy.

But at least we will see the first trillionaire in our lifetimes. What an achievement!
