I see. When you witnessed this demonstration, 46 years ago, did they mention anything about surveillance capitalism? How about online radicalization? Was the potential for the disruption of "community cohesion" brought up? We're there any thoughts shared on the matter of pirating copyrighted digital content? How much time did they spend on "digital sovereignty" and the future dominance of US based Big Tech over global data and communication?

I suspect not much. So perhaps we're not really discussing the same matter, are we?

Europe is essentially incompatible with the internet. They never asked for it, and it's been nothing but trouble for Europe ever since it appeared. Had the clueless politicians you mention understood what it was at the time, they would have outlawed it immediately.

The world should accept some bad things happening as we DEI everything.

The world should accept some bad things happening as we eradicate our provincial notions of borders and citizenship, up to and including mass deaths from terrorism.

We're expected to accept "bad things" on behalf of any number of elite agendas and virtues. Deeply isolated and disconnected bubble dwellers such Altman have been behaving exactly like this for a long time now. So don't be surprised if you find there is no real consequences, walk backs or other desirable outcome here; the elites you have been enabling feel quite entitled to they're indifference to your concerns, and you made them that way.

Sure. Why not.

Indeed. Space is no longer about how much money contractors can bilk out of the US government. It's about vast wealth being created in orbit. For SpaceX, those huge Starlink v3s are as important as the rocket: 10 years from now, using wires for client internet connectivity will be a quaint thing geeks go on about, but no one else actually uses. Musk is going to ruin the market for telecoms and cable operations, globally.

Trump's FCC is likely right on this one. That is, if you actually want anything built-out. Whatever the sclerotic hippy boomers in MN don't want is almost certainly the best policy.
