Journal damn_registrars's Journal: April Fools In Slashdot Journals 17
Some people took April Fool's Day as an opportunity for humor in their journals (though they were drowned out in volume by the new "achievement" system).
I made up a bogus political story.
Pudge brought up a conspiracy theory similar to the one from Man of the Year.
Though honors for the wackiest April Fool's entry goes to RailGunner, who decided to poke fun at conservative conspiracy theories regarding the current political leadership in the US.
RailGunner really pulled out the stops on this one, too.
He started with a link to an article that is two months old, from a publication that ceased operation not long after. Though he turned up the foolery on that by taking a non-quoted sentence from the article, and trying to treat it as a quote.
He could have stopped there, but it appears he really wanted to turn it up to 11. So he continued.
His next statement tried to redefine a word to match his application. Language would deteriorate rather quickly if everyone was allowed to just change the meaning of words to fit their own point of view, wouldn't it? Kudos on pointing out the earlier fool who thought he could change the same word to show his hatred without worrying about what said word actually means.
Continued use of same incorrectly-defined word helps to maintain consistency throughout this joke. Way to ride it out.
Then of course to really show how far he'll reach to pull this joke together, he tries to relate past conservatives to "the left". We all know that of course the German (you already satisfied Godwin's rule, so I don't need to mention him by name) was trying to conserve the German state that he felt was lost after a previous conflict. He wanted to conserve German culture as well. He invaded sovereign nations to try to conserve German identity and resources. And he wanted to invoke the aspirations of previous leaders of the same, much in the same way that American Conservatives keep trying to invoke the federalist papers as if they were additional amendments to the US constitution.
And of course, your good friend from Italy. You have of course compared American politicians to him before. Need I point out that he was trying to conserve Roman identity? You know where the salute came from, don't you?
So well done, sir. Thank you for hte laugh. April 1 was too serious this year.

I already laid out several dramatic similarities between them and the Conservatives in this country. You haven't named one similarity between them and the Liberals.

I never stated that Nachos was wrong; he hasn't claimed anything yet. It is hard to disprove something when nothing has been claimed. I asked him to present a statement, with facts. He has provided none. There is no purpose in arguing with a video clip. If he agrees with the video clip, he can state what it is from the video clip that he agrees with.

What a shocking surprise. Though also a tragedy, in the fact that Nachos was unwilling to actually write out those tired talking points. It is fun on occasion to see people try to fondly revisit the 80s.

Why should he? In case you haven't figured it out, being right or wrong is completely irrelevant. They only have to draw a crowd and get them to believe. And you do that by firing up their primordial passions. All the truth in the world isn't going to change their minds unless you got some charisma to back it up. So screw the facts. Hence when I saw you mention fascist I figured you were referring to him.
