Tschernobyl blew up, no shutting down. TMI melted its core. Fukushima melted its core. Windscale had a burning graphite core. You were saying? Oh, right, you just claimed total crap.

The question becomes, is the upside greater than the downside?
That's never the question. No one is expected to answer that. Questions are not permitted. Asking questions is clue #1 your a Nazi.
The world should accept some bad things happening when we defund law enforcement.
The world should accept some bad things happening when the kids get trans-ed.
The world should accept some bad things happening when incarceration is obviated.
The world should accept some bad things happening when we unionize government workers.
The world should accept some bad things happening when we obviate standardized testing.
Finally, after having decided that all these things are the unquestioned purview of our most virtuous Great And Good, and a cohort of elites is entirely accustomed to inflicting whatever model for the world they prefer: 'The World Should Accept Some Bad Things Happening' For the Benefits of AI.
Ok. You're in their hands now, right where you put yourself. Enjoy.
I can't help but chalk up whatever has Altman's statement bouncing around your echo chamber to selective outrage. The fact is, the hubris we see here is not special.
The world should accept some bad things happening as we "decarbonize" everything.
The world should accept some bad things happening as we DEI everything.
The world should accept some bad things happening as we eradicate our provincial notions of borders and citizenship, up to and including mass deaths from terrorism.
We're expected to accept "bad things" on behalf of any number of elite agendas and virtues. Deeply isolated and disconnected bubble dwellers such Altman have been behaving exactly like this for a long time now. So don't be surprised if you find there is no real consequences, walk backs or other desirable outcome here; the elites you have been enabling feel quite entitled to they're indifference to your concerns, and you made them that way.
You are arguing on the level of "you are holding it wrong". Pathetic and marks you as not very smart. Which, incidentally, makes you the primary LLM target group.
That is a nonsensical statement. One size does very much not have to fit all.
Nani?
Great. Another hapless geek teen being persecuted for no reason. Except this time he's non-WASP, so the next decade's worth of hobby outrage can be even more indignant.
I would think that Teslas get stolen far less often because they are difficult to sell and difficult to turn into parts and, on top of that, you have to do a lot of work to disable all the electronics in there. Hence not an effect that would transfer to any external cameras.
Also, who would want a bad-quality space-NAZI car anyways?
The main problem is that the police does not really care about cars getting stolen.
I think you have a problem counting there. No, most hardware is NOT involved in booting.
For special-purpose, there are better things. For example, for teaching the Big Blue Button is quite a bit superior IMO. I have used it last semester with no issues at all. But it is not really suitable for more general use. For example, it requires you to schedule meetings and upload your slides before. That is fine for teaching, but does not work so well in many other situations. It also uses LibreOffice to convert PP slides to PDF, but since my teaching slides are LibreOffice anyways, I had zero problems.
That said, a Teams replacement does not have to be better. It just has to be about equal or not too much worse and it has to not be made by an US company or a company beholden to any other authoritarian regime.
People do not stop stealing cars because of cameras. But I guess Flock is desperate for some good press, so we get propaganda lies now.
Forget it. This person threw together what they mistake for a good spec of a browser and then asked Claude to build it. They do not have the skills to do any real work, LLM support or not. This whole thing is just yet another meaningless stunt that impresses the clueless.
That depends. For example, a Linux kernel basically clears everything out and does everything itself. Hence the drivers for most hardware can be taken from that. Also note that for booting you only need a small part of the "full range of modern hardware" to work and there are quite a few standardized interfaces for storage.
The only thing impressive here is the sheer undiluted stupidity of the approach and of the ones cheering for it. Like you.
You will be successful in your work.
