Comment Re:Insulation (Score 1) 192

I see a lot of comments above suggesting that the funding would be better spent "insulating houses." I'm not from the UK - are there still a lot of homes there with "inadequate" insulation? What counts as "adequate"? Is it common to insulate the walls of homes in the UK? Do UK homes have basements and underfloor insulation? How about double glazing of windows?

I'm all for taking the "low-hanging-fruit" in terms of energy efficiency... I guess I just assumed this would have already been taken care of in the 1970s during the oil crisis?

Can anyone in the UK comment?

UK houses have been insulated since the 70s. My parents had some foam sprayed between the bricks and insulation in the roof back then.

In the present day, most houses have this and most also double glazing.

I'm sure more can always be done, but probably most "low-hanging fruit" has been picked.

Submission + - During Covid Comcast delivered 90% "working latency" reductions by deploying AQM (apnic.net)

mtaht writes: Comcast fully deployed bufferbloat fixes across their entire network over the past year, demonstrating 90% improvements in working latency and jitter which is described in this article. (the CDF plot is to die for) But: did anyone notice? Did any other ISPs adopt AQM tech? How many of y'all out there are running smart queue management (sch_cake in linux) nowadays?

All British newspapers (and probably most newspapers in the world) favour their own political parties.

The Telegraph is generally a reputable news source, and to claim it prints "made-up nonsense", at less any more frequently than any major, established newspaper, is simply wrong and says more about your own prejudices and basis than reality.

The Perl 6 Architect writes about the 7-8 years work put in to get this far at https://ancillary-proxy.atarimworker.io?url=https%3A%2F%2F6guts.wordpress.com%2F20...

"In the coming days, weâ(TM)ll also produce a Rakudo Star release â" which consists of the compiler along with documentation and a selection of modules â" and that will also have an MSI, to make life easier for Windows folks."

There will also be perl 6 speedups in a series of monthly releases next year.
