There are use cases you're not covering. Last month I needed a photo of my sister-in-law's ID card to prove that I'd correctly transcribed her address (bureaucrats don't always understand that other countries do things like addresses differently) when applying for a document to make it easier for her to visit. If she'd had to be there in person we'd have had a circular dependency.

I actually just bought a refurbished 15" M4 MacBook Air (for various reasons), but I'm also hanging on to my Intel-based MacBook Pro since it's running fine. The latter machine currently has a small-ish Linux Mint partition alongside macOS, but I'm thinking of switching it to Linux-only.
Note that, if you do this, you need carefully chose your distro if your Mac has the T2 security chip.
Maybe you use different OSes to me, but I expect whoami to be deterministic rather than stochastic.
And as for emergencies just buy a radio.

It's always fun to read about people implementing DOOM on various unlikely devices... however this is not one of those stories. This is just porting DOOM to a different language, but still running on a standard computer. And the heavy lifting is being done with python rather than SQL - so it's not even a new language, in terms of DOOM ports.

Yep. It's for security.... but not YOUR security. It's to let others be secure from the user. The "trust" part of the TPM isn't there to let you trust the computer, it's so others can trust it. Or, in this case, build up a database of who not to trust.

This is not a joke - some of my coworkers set up a Teams channel specifically for talking about dogs, cats, and babies. I have stayed out of it - like you, if I want human interaction I go visit the front office or generally walk around the building (or, on WFH days, go play fetch with the dogs for a few minutes). Plus, I need to get actual work done and having that channel ping constantly would not help.
And, when I REALLY want to kill time, there's always Slashdot...
