I'm of two minds on this. On one hand, if you identify the company, yes, people will know what to look for and can either replace the inverter or get a whole new panel.

On the other hand, by identifying the company, you've tipped them off that you know what they did and the company will try to find a different way to do the same thing.

On the other other hand, by not identifying the company this keeps China in the dark about which ones were found and allows time for companies to look for the same thing in other brands. If it turns out it's only these two brands then you can ban them from use. But if you find this commonality among a range of Chinese brands, you can use that as direct evidence of government involvement.

That's my thought. Trump is going to keep telling his employers whatever they ask, and someone (Trump?) has also apparently told all his underlings to make sure they share information too. So what if Hamas One has a microphone behind a panel? The people on board will generally carry newer microphones on their phones, unobstructed by panels. The spyware on their phones can be better maintained and up-to-date, so that if Xi wants someone's meeting to get another 'bcc' added onto it, that can happen.

Against this idea, though: "offense in depth" and the fact that not all adversaries are friendly with one another. While the plane itself will likely report to Qatar, the phones report to someone else, so this is a way to leak to two different foreign parties without those parties having to coordinate with each other.

Maybe Trump shouldn't have to personally whitelist each foreign spy; just let them do their thing without wasting his valuable time. Every time some foreign government buys a few million dollars of his Trump Coin, he or someone on his staff has to manually email them defense documents and that's less time on the golf course. Surely this can be made more efficient, and Hamas One will help with that. Don't make Trump do all the work.

Javascript is killing the world, basically.

Stupid claim.

JavaScript is a language.

Runtimes running it are often - after the analyzing and Jit compiling overhead - same speed as C.

So: you have to compare the JIT compiling overhead with the compiling and linking overhead of C (or similar).

Blaming languages, instead of their implementations, if you want to blame anything, is plain stupid.

How about this:
A)
- 10 programmers meet in two offices at same place every
- a team of 4 and 6
- they program in SmallTalk
- they release a majour feature every month
- most of them have a commute time below one hour
- their software is used by 1000 people in the company they work for (or imagine an airline having 10,000 people using that software)

Versus B)
- 25 programmers meet in 3 offices at different places
- roughly same team sizes
- they program in "insert your favourite non for weenies hard core language here"
- they deliver a "majour feature" every 3 months
- they commute to their work (yes artificial complicated) to their work roughly 2h
- their software is used by 100 people ... imagine a power company doing specialized power contracts

So ... what the funk has the perceived speed advantage of the final "executable" to do with the amount of CO2 the programmers produce during their work?

My computer is sitting here doing nothing except showing "windows". It still uses ~50Watt. Sure, this is a laptop. Not a blade in a data center.

If people think that programmers/datacenters running big iron software do not "optimize": then they are stupid as shit.

Your random Android or iOS App might use an linear search for something in its data instead of a working on a sorted list using binary search ... are you sure that this costs much more energy? The data is in memory. The CPU (in general) does not care if it idles or walks about some memory, neither does the MMU or the memory itself.

So, my current Android toy app is a vocabulary trainer. Guess what: the whole date fits into the CPU cache. Ten or 20 times, perhaps 100 times. Because 1000 core words of "insert your mother language" and translation "insert your target language" are in UTF-8 far below 200kB of data.

If we had better CPUs we perhaps had better OSes and could make an fOpenDirectToCPUCache("filename", "rb") call?

Energy is wasted on the "big picture iron" ... which has to stand by for "black Friday" and other "emergency sales".

Power consumption is most certainly not spiked by: oh Python is so slow, oh JS is so slow, but by not calling the right library.

There are big power consumption areas. Like training large LLMs. And? There is nothing much to do about it.

If you want better programmers then perhaps teach them how to use libraries, instead of making them fail exams by asking what an "epsilon free grammar" is.

And if you hate Python so much, because of its white spaces - what about going back to RPG? Oh, you do not know what RPG is ... guessed so.

Or you could program in Nim, looks like Python (with static typing), but compiles bottom line to machine code via C, or look at Mojo.

Languages are not the problem. Algorithms are. And that goes over a big spectrum.

Why use an SQL database when a network/graph database covers all your needs? Oh, because the NoSQL guys are stupid and you do not want to be associated with them ...

Bottom line: the problem is MONEY. Some people have MONEY, and they want RETURN of the BUCK. The rest is no concern about them.

I have a billion invested, you fail to pay the promised 100millions? But you are confident and I believe it ( and you are actually doing it) investing another 1 billion will not only pay 200millions but more? So, lets go.

Money, and the short term ROI is the problem. You could call it artificial scarceness of resources. If you just could hire an independent contractor to speed up your already existing software ... but you can't, you have to go through management, HR and so on ...

So, energy consumption or the speed of your software: is not the fault of the language. I you do not believe it, I sent you the link to the interpreted C runtime programmed by "John Carmack" himself. So: we have C, and we have C, and one is faster than the other. How can that be?

Bottom line
Of course we can utilize existing hardware better.

Nigeria, like most African states/nations, is an artificial construct.
A remanent of the colonization where European invaders cut up the pie amoung each other.
When the invaders withdrew, the various "provinces" became countries, until civil wars divided them again, or they stuck like Nigeria or Kenya.
There are plenty of countries that barely have a functional government. Does not matter which you pick. Most are run by a clan, that can manipulate votes, without manipulation: as 60% of the country have the same ethnic of that clan, and that ethnic group only has 4 big clans, and when a winner in an election is "manifesting" they rally for that one. The other ethnic groups never win anything or get anything from the government. Other countries elections are always close to civil war. Other countries the same clans rule since 60 years, and no one notices, for example Cameroon.

Has nothing to do with "Africans are to dumb", has only to do: they could not find a simple/clean/working exit out of the colonization nightmare. You made it to "something" during colonization, because your kids went to an UK university, became administration civil servants, or work in a bank or for the rail road: you are a collaborator! Next "revolution" (oh the damn conquerors did not realize it is 1965 already and colonization time is over?) is "communist supported" by ... insert "Cuba" or what ever ... next revolution, you get put at a wall, or chopped to pieces.

That is what we have in most parts of Africa. Countries left in disarray by the colonists. Artificial patched together. Divided by the first and then second civil wars ... Many still to big to count as "a nation". Tribes/clans divided by artificial borders, separating countries that should not exist in the first place.

India is different. It was a monster empire before the Britts conquered it, and it simply re-emerged from its suppressors as un/united as before.

Nigeria is not a nation of Nigerians, it is a conglomerate of dozens of "tribes" that do not only live there, but in all neighbouring countries. Look at a map of US or Australia. Many many borders are straight lines. Because someone put the borders on the maps before that area even was conquered. Same in Africa. Look at Europe: everything is a "natural" border. You could argue: why is the river Rhine in south Germany a natural border to France, when the native language on both sides is a German dialect? Well, because the river is an obstacle where both sides ruling their side take an "advantage" of. And a straight line at "latitude X" in Africa: it simply cuts several groups living north and south into artificial two groups ...

Submission + - Hackers hit deportation airline GlobalX leak flight manifests and deface websit (bitdefender.com)

Neuroelectronic writes: GlobalX Airlines, a charter airline being used by the US government for deportation flights, has been attacked by hacktivists who have made off with what they claim are detailed flight records and passenger manifests. The attackers, who claim to be operating under the umbrella of Anonymous, did not just quietly exfiltrate data from the airline assisting with the controversial deportations — they also defaced the company's website and replaced it with a message:

"Anonymous has decided to enforce the Judge’s order since you and your sycophant staff ignore lawful orders that go against your fascist plans. You lose again, Donnie."

Of course, there's little point in defacing a website if nobody notices — and so the hacktivists reached out to journalists, pointing them in the direction of the security breach, and offering a treasure trove of leaked data including:

  • flight logs
  • passenger lists
  • itinerary details spanning months

The leaked details included information about flights used to deport hundreds of Venezuelan migrants, including some who were battling the legality of their deportation from the United States while the planes were already in the air according to a report by 404 Media.
