... but the get-off-my-lawn slashdot crowd has a terrible track record of predicting the success of a new technology. I was here when they said the iPhone wouldn't work (holding up to your face will mess with the touchscreen, it won't work without a stylus, just get a PDA, etc). Then they made fun of the iPad (lol apple named their device after a tampon, that will go over well). Then they said bitcoin would never be worth anything and miners were wasting their time and resources (use your extra cpu cycles for folding@home instead). AI is here to stay whether you like it or not and it will only get better.

This. I've been saying for years that it would make the most sense to make all public internet addresses IPv6 and corporate LANs can still run on IPv4 if they want to. Translation can be done at the router. One major hurdle to IPv6 adoption is the fact that there are still a ton of popular websites that don't support IPv6.

I assume by "unrestrained and unchecked" you're referring to how the left has put so many regulations, restrictions, and minimum wage increases in place over the decades that it made companies first offshore and then (when that still wasn't enough) invent AI for the purpose of being able to stay in business.

"There was no law requiring you submit your ID to some database (to probably get hacked) to sign up for HBO, Cinemax, or Showtime." You had to be an adult to have the prerequisite cable or satellite service. Those companies didn't sign up minors for those services. And the worst that could happen with HBO, Cinemax etc is that a kid might hear some swear words or see some boobs. There's much worse you can get into on the net these days.

Laws existed to protect children from harmful things long before the internet existed. You don't get to bypass those laws just because the bad things are online. And you also don't get to bypass those laws because "muh privacy." Sorry, not sorry. If you don't like that then don't use the service. The laws should have been expanded to require age verification decades ago.

My boomer parents have been duped by fake trailers several times now. They have even gone to see a movie at the theater and then been confused when the movie was nothing like the trailer they saw. Now before you are inclined to make fun of "stupid boomers," keep in mind that some of these fake trailers are very believable and I have even had to go research myself after seeing some of them only to find out they are fake. If it turns out that movie studios are endorsing and profiting off these fake trailers, then they should be sued for bait-and-switch false advertising.
