nz17 writes: "While the administrator is away the managers will play. A custom Web server went missing at an unnamed public university, but who was the culprit? The department manager. Thinking that the Linux Web server (which used a Microsoft XBOX for its hardware) was a normal game console, he snuck the device out of the server room and home for his son to play over the holiday weekend. The philosophy students who used the server for their class were not amused."

nz17 writes: "Gamasutra is carrying the story about GameTap's new indie games program. From the article:

By enlisting in the program, GameTap assumes non-exclusive responsibility for the digital distribution of each selected game. In addition to being promoted alongside GameTap titles, GameTap Indies will be showcased in a special Independent Games content area within the service.
GameTap also plans to give out its own award at the Independent Games Festival to three recipients. These selected three will receive $5000 — $10000 for a non-exclusive five-year distribution contract through the GameTap service."

nz17 writes: Gamasutra has a preview of its upcoming interview with Dave Mitchell, Director of Marketing for Microsoft's Game Developer Group, currently available. In the interview Mitchell dismisses Linux on the PS3 at a game creators' solution and has said, "What we [at XBox] are focused on doing is providing great tools at a free or low price point that are going to enable consumers to be absolutely successful at creating games for both the Windows and the Xbox 360 platforms."
