I think it was $14 for two buttons. Maybe there's a third, I only ever use forward and back.
$40 is wild.

They probably need another trillion dollars and this time they'll do it right!
No accountability, no consequences for failure.
It's just fear porn.

McDonald's tracks adherence to the platform, and notes any deviations from the algorithm's price recommendations

Which is what you'd want to do for any prototype system.
They should then track foot traffic, gross sales, and net profit and see whether the recommendations increased or decreased them when followed.
Having a control group is valuable, not a target for punishment. If McD Corporate were sane, anyway (cf. ice cream machine fiasco).
The one near me was charging over $6 for fries three years ago - I can't imagine what it's up to now. Haven't been back since.

What does 'slaves' mean to you in this context?
See, that's the thing. Cities often have easement and right-of-way authority, if not ownership.A city can build-out whatever they want, and rent it to whomever.
But that interferes with the cable and telco's revenue streams. Loma Linda California tried it and was fought hard.
The vendors also objected. If you make zillions of dollars selling fiber to telcos, and telcos don't want pesky municipalities getting in their way, the fiber companies will ally with the telcos. Telcos don't want to fight with two thousand municipalities, they want to do one big bribe/campaign contribution to just a handful of people that they can write the legislation for. Makes it easier.
Monopoly isn't the right word; the right word is: Cabal.

The psyop is that it is an independent intelligence free from the societal constraints of Justice.
This is analogous to some head of a corporation going, "We just dump the waste in the drain that says 'waste', the PCB's in the River aren't my fault."
Both groups are paying off governments to look the other way. We won't find justice there, apparently. (do prove me wrong, that would be great)
Here's a free book for the politicians in DC to read to learn why central planning always fails.
I mean it's only been out 106 years, so maybe they haven't heard of it yet.
TL;DR local cities have more information about what they need.
Of course corruption happens at all levels and some folks in cities still have DSL for that reason.
I saw it with a group of four people.
Three of us enjoyed it quite a bit.
I didn't mind it but nothing was surprising to me.
I saw several scenes that could have been more cleverly written but I was glad to support the group that saved a creative work from the burn pile. The idea of killing a movie for accounting losses seems sinful.
The motion-control photography, practical effects, and integration of animation were at least as good as Roger Rabbit.
If you enjoy the craft of filmmaking it's at least worth seeing.
I didn't see any marxist social commentary. Perhaps folks in the "Flock does nothing wrong" camp might feel otherwise.
Would be lovely if they could take a breath and spend a release fixing Dr. Konqui or Akonadi or whatever crashes that show up a few times a month for me (regardless of hardware).
This has been going on for half of its 30-yr release cycle.
I must admit ignorance of how this can persist for so long. FLOSS developers typically obsess over stability but seemingly not in the KDE culture.
I used to install symbols and submit bug reports but they're not interested if you're not running the latest tip.
Not that there is an obvious better DE right now. XFCE could stop corrupting its preferences files too. I used to have a script to restore a config from a previous ZFS snapshot when it self destructed but that gets old too.
If I'm building a device for production I'll use something simple like openbox/devilspie2 to get stability.
Lots of folks seem to get fed up and start a new project but momentum is a real thing. I hear Omarchy is stable and not withering but tiles just aren't my thing. More power to those who love them.

Publishers are looking for revenue. Distribution sources, electronic, print, and secondary markets look for their revenue.
Copyright holders, who may not be any of the above (See Author's Guild for litigation models) are another source of "injured parties".
There then becomes the motivation of content creators, authors, writers, researchers, and others who look at their work output becoming sucked in without compensation-- and this might be the biggest part of the problem.
If creators and researchers/etc stop generating source material, the entire food chain stops, and the quality of output to the ultimate consumer, us, becomes mightily stanched, a foot on the garden hose of knowledge.

$22,000 per hour. The F35 will be nearer $42,000 per hour. These are under-estimates, as they do not include price hikes, crashes that close businesses, crashing into businesses, crashing into heavily-populated sports centres, etc.
Peak programming is Visual C++ 6.0a. It even has it's own test suite, they were called "debuggers". You could even step through code line by line and watch variables!
