I wrote a line of code by hand saturday (client blocks AI) and it was weird. I hadn't done it in months.

That said, you can make legislation so that you're not forced to use it (or be spied on by it), but you cannot make a law that stops AI development. If nothing else, the law won't reach beyond our borders. And eventually a nation hostile to you will develop ASI and then they will impose it on you (and worse)
You can easily make a law that stops the trillions of dollars in capital flows into all of this bullshit which is the only thing that matters anyway.
As for this magic genie takes over the world sci-fi nuttery if intelligence really mattered the smartest of US would rule the world. In reality the exact opposite is true.
AI is a technology. It doesn't have moral agency. It can be used for good and for bad.
So far, the printing press is responsible for more deaths than AI.
I don't accept the premise technology is neutral. If you could spend $20 at your local hardware store and fashion a device that nullified the coulomb barrier in whatever it was pointed at nobody would need a time machine to figure out how the world would end. Technology itself has predictable implications for society.
Instead, I agree with Aschenbrenner's paper. The AI labs should probably be nationalized for national security reasons.
No way in hell is government hoarding such technology ever a good idea.

Something I think could eventually have a huge impact if it ever caught on is diversifying away from PKI and the curse of the ubiquitous adhoc web login form... Support for whatever PAKEs are in OpenSSL like TLS-SRP. These let you login to websites securely without any certs via secure phishing resistant mutual password authentication bound to the TLS layer. If I remember right at least Apache and cURL support it but no browser does and needless to say no publicly available website I know of does either.
Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't believe SQL includes client data rendering. At least not any SQL implementation I've ever worked with. There's always a client that has to interpret SQL data and convert it into a rendered frame as well as send user input back to SQL as a query.
Here the database outputs a fully rendered bitmap containing the frame to display. Client script driving everything is just taking that bitmap and pushing it out to the display.
RAM and SSD prices will become so high that replacement consumer devices will become unaffordable for people with low to middle incomes.
Already feel this way about RAM. Last time I checked a few weeks ago what I spent $2k on three years ago now costs over $24k. At least resale markets are surging which should help for awhile.
AI is "super intelligence" in the same way that a computer is a "super calculator". In other words, it is not intelligent at all. It only does really fast pattern-matching, just like a computer can do really fast numerical calculations.
On the other hand, compared to the average American, maybe it does appear to be super intelligent.
Interesting people who make these arguments tend to speak in terms of modalities rather than capabilities. It's a pattern matching token predicting statistical glorified autocomplete not even AI.
All the while completely ignoring demonstrated capabilities or excusing them away under mountains of unfalsifiable rhetoric.
First stop taking Propaganda from Fox News and maybe read the actual text of the proposed legislation. Nothing is being banned and ironically enough it's something Trump also wants, a department of AI. Or maybe SI depending on what he changed it to this week.

I'm not sure arrest is on the menu for the current crop of hacking transgressions yet it is being contemplated for other transgressions and civil liability is on the menu. Lawsuits have already been filed related to this shit and more are likely to come.

I'm a fan of drastically slowing AI development until we've solved the alignment problem, but a kill switch ain't it.
There is no solution to the alignment problem and there never will be.
And the nutritional content is the same? The summary mentions one gene was edited, but aren't single genes sometimes (usually ?) involved in multiple things? So how carefully have they gone looking for the "unintended consequences"?
Looks like a job for the consumer. Not sure how it works in the UK... around here FDA pulls the "substantially equivalent" rabbit out of its hat and lets it go bananas.

"Super Intelligence" will only be used in English. So why shouldn't they agree. It's only the English arguments that will end up polluted.
/w LLMs semantics mostly get abstracted from language. Doing this is more like pissing in the neighborhood swimming pool rather than a jar labeled English.
This was true of some pilot installations, but accelerated aging of modern perovskite panels suggest much closer to silicon, and some have passed the same IEC standards as silicon panels.
It would be nice if it worked. Perovskite has been nothing but disappointment for years. I'm not sure I buy lab aging tests because moisture infiltration is what does these things in. When someone sells them with a 20-30 year warranty it will be good enough for me.
Perovskite panels only last a few years... normal mono panels have an order of magnitude longer service life.
