Of course, I'm just guessing, since, as far as I can tell, the summary doesn't tell us what constitutes a "toxic workplace".

The article, however, does tell us exactly what people reported as toxic. From TFA:

Top Causes of Poor Mental Health:
59% Toxic work culture
54% A bad manager
47% Lack of growth opportunities
47% Increased workload
33% Staffing shortages

Among those with poor or fair mental health, 51% say their well-being would improve if employers removed toxic employees.

First of all, AI is a real technology being deployed in real ways inside of Corporate America.

There was lots of real technology being deployed prior to the burst of the DotCom Bubble.

Next, the spending on AI infrastructure doesn't strike me as reckless.

There were a lot of people who thought the money they were dumping into companies like Kozmo.com was not being spent recklessly.

Lastly here in my scolding of the AI worrywarts is that valuations don't support the warning calls.

What's funny here is his basic argument devolved into "okay, yeah, the valuations are higher than they should be... but I think it's okay!"

Lots of people buy garbage like this simply because of the low price - sometimes priced even below the cost of production. If it's cheaper than the competition, that's all they look at. But somehow it doesn't occur to them that the manufacturer expects to recoup that money, one way or the other...

Of course, if the product description didn't make clear that advertisements are "part of the experience", there is always the option of class action.

The reason California rules typically affect the entire US is primarily due to its size. With 40 million people, businesses don't want to NOT be in California, and it's typically easier to just follow the more stringent California rules for a product line than to produce two different variations of a single product.
