I have no idea how the fact that there are more companies in China, or that others might exist outside China makes anything moot. That is like saying putting in a filtration system to avoid a single contaminant is moot because it also filters other potential contaminants. That being said I may not have been clear. We are mostly in agreement, and I agree with you that this is really about Trump trying to pretend he is a 5D Chess Grandmaster; of course he is posturing to play to his ignorant base. I was explaining the reasoning used, not saying I believe them. I would add though, saying that factory inspections are meaningless doesn't make any sense either. If you have ever worked in manufacturing then you know that they burn/load the firmware on site. Sampling products from shelves is useful, but that doesn't mean that the additional pressure that they could be audited at any time, especially if they actually perform the audits, is of no use. To recap, we agree that this is much ado about nothing, but from a purely security conscious standpoint it *does* make sense to be able to have manufacturing in the US if only because the factories have to follow all US laws and need to comply with all lawful inspections, which can be more easily facilitated due to geographic convenience.

China also has no problem with slave labor. Tell an American liberal they’re working “half” days (as in 12-hour shifts) 6 days a week with no overtime and you’ll find a picket line outside the business complete with marching band and slogans, within an hour.

And that’s just the response from the fucking baristas. Imagine the vitriol at the bomb factory.

Comparing American costs to China on anything, is stupid. Why? Because we don’t treat our people the same. At all.

China remains the threat, not the company in which it is manufactured, because TP-Link is a Chinese company. Why moving manufacturing to the US matters is that in the US the facility is on US soil, so federal authorities can legally conduct unannounced physical audits. They can verify that the firmware being loaded onto the routers matches the exact code submitted to regulators, to make sure no backdoors were slipped in at the last second. Since you agree this isn't to create jobs, and also seem to believe that volt, flax, and salt never happened, I guess you prefer to give Trump far more credit than he deserves for his amazing "5D Chess" skills.

Your complaint runs smack into the face of no Federal standards for elections that effect an entire country. State laws fucking matter when they purposely and egregiously overrule to ensure corruption wins. Like insisting certain states not be required to ask for valid ID when casting Federal votes.

Fix the election problems at the Federal level first. You’ll see which party is clearly demanding corruption to secure wins.
