Ok, my personal positions is that Ars has a point. I love some of their writers and visit them pretty much daily. I want to support them, but I do not have the cash to buy a subscription which would be the proper thing to do. I also really hate ads around my articles. Which leads me to the question: will a simple wget cronjob (i.e. wget -r -l 2 -o /dev/null -O /dev/null -U 'Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; de; rv:1.9.1.8) Gecko/20100214 Ubuntu/9.10 (karmic) Firefox/3.5.8' www.arstechnica.com) result in them getting paid for a few page views? Input on how to make this work would be most welcome.

Coincidentally, some Windows Mobile users are also having similar issue with their new year SMSes coming from 2016. What function could cause this kind of error?

bakamaki writes "I work for a small manufacturing company as a SysAdmin. My boss is a DBA. We are the only IT employees. He recently decided to record hours spent on his projects and then evaluate how much time the databases he writes save the employees. Then he translates that into a $ figure. He's asking me to do something similar but I'm kinda at a loss. It seems most of the stuff I do is preventative, IE care and feeding of servers and network infrastructure in addition to all the break fix stuff I do for the user base with their desktops. When in this position what do you folks usually do?"

OK, Smartguy. Please explain the difference in logical content between these three conversations:

"Nobody voted for Nader." "I did."

Translation: Nader received a negligible quantity of votes. Your vote was one of the negligible few.

"There was no demand for this product." "I bought one."

Translation: There was so little demand for this product that it was not viable. There were so few of you who purchased this product that it was not profitable.

"P is an empty set." "I am a member of P."

Translation: P is an empty set. You are an element of P. You are NULL.

The researcher they speak with focuses on the concept of vicarious reinforcement for changing behavior. They also talk a bit about identity issues surrounding the avatar and the 'real' physical self."

While broadband users have experienced somewhat faster response times, narrowband users have been left behind." FTFA: "This new tiny MacBook, people familiar with the project say, remains in development ahead of its target launch date around the time WWDC rolls around mid-year. It will be both lighter and more compact than any other Mac portable Apple has put forth in recent years, bundling a display of similarly smaller proportions."

The Nokia Corporation said it would lay off up to 700 people globally, mostly in its enterprise business operation, to increase efficiency and improve competitiveness. The layoffs, expected within the next few months, include 340 workers in Finland. The cuts will affect research and development, related sales and marketing, as well as internal information technology operations, the company said. Nokia said it would try to transfer some workers to different posts.
