Lemmy is distributed forum software using a W3C endorsed protocol.
so is Kbin
Both interact seemlessly.

It's free. It's open source.

There are apps that replace every major silo. Imagine if only needed one account to interact with Youtube, Insta, FB, Reddit, Twitter etc.

The Fediverse exists and can replace almost every social media site you currently use.

Do they have critical mass? Obviously not. But all it takes is you moving over and another person and another person etc. If you're truly fed up with Reddit, alternatives exist.

Not sure if you're stupid or just being a troll...

NPR's Planet Money looked at a grocery store in Norway. They had a reporter sitting in the store's HQ, and they had received a secret shopper report that a particular product (can of mushrooms in water) was 0.20 Kroner less at a competitor. The reporter watched the price get updated in the chain's central database, then ran down to the store that was below the HQ and saw the shelf tag change about 9 minutes later.

That particular store has a policy of not increasing prices while the store was open, they could only lower them.

Stores will have to set good policies and follow them. Stores open 24/7 will probably have to have set times to raise prices.

So lets say I am ahead in a field and have a few up and coming competitors. There is a simple solution to the problem, lets get the government to regulate us all. This causes our competitors to massively slow down as they have to respond to the regulations that I wrote (I don't have to slow down as much - I wrote the regulations such that I am already following them of course). There is also a cost to complying with regulations - it tends not to scale with size more like a static cost. As a large incumbent I can spend a billion dollars complying with regulations. That small startup can not spend a billion dollars to comply, even is I can limit my costs to something I can afford to pay - that is money I am paying regulators not engineers making my product better.

If you have data on the MWh/KWh A/C reductions shave off peak that would be interesting. The Casio site shows explicitly batteries contributing 30% of the grid supply in the evenings. I don't believe you can get there with A/C reductions.

Both help, but my understanding is batteries are far larger in their capacity.

the CASIO site clearly shows batteries providing 30% of grid supply in the evenings just yesterday.

Batteries allow the time shift of midday solar energy surplus to when there's a deficit in the evenings. CA has cut gas peaker usage in the evenings by over 50% in just 5 years.

As for smart thermostats vs batteries - batteries are explicitly listed in the graphs providing 30 percent of evening peak power just yesterday. https://ancillary-proxy.atarimworker.io?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.gridstatus.io%2Flive...

Smart thermostats definitely help but you'd need millions of houses pre-chilling down to the mid 60s before seeing demand reduction similar to batteries contributions. Most people aren't going to do that.

With the advent of sodium ion batteries for grid scale storage, capacity won't likely be an issue for more than a decade.

More energy hits the earth as solar in an hour than the human race uses, in all forms, in a year (at least before hyperscale data centers anyway).

An 8000:1 surplus. And that's *just* solar.
