This, so much this.

While I personally would prefer "Standard Time" all the time, anything that removes twice-yearly clock changes would be an improvement. Local schools and businesses can then just set whatever opening and closing times best match the local situation - heck they could even change those individual hours throughout the year if they wanted. Making EVERYONE change EVERYTHING twice a year is just stupid.

instead of trying to make everything a web app

My kids have been in the Google ecosystem at school for several years, from elementary school into high school. Leaving aside the Google is Evil issue for now, there's no denying it's a good experience.

Whether they're on their Chromebook, their phone, their tablet, or a computer at the library or Grandpa's all their stuff is just "there." Their data, their apps, their "Google Classroom." Everything. The notion that their apps + "stuff" doesn't follow them everywhere is foreign to them.

My son has a gaming laptop, but really the only installed applications are his games.

Just because the film attracts a big audience doesn't mean it's any good.

Except in this case, the movie is good.

That's part of the reason word-of-mouth is giving this movie traction. I told my friends how much I enjoyed it, they went, enjoyed it as well, told their friends... etc.

Word-of-mouth doesn't work if a movie is bad.

I guess if I was into Kung-Fu that might be a thing?

Chinese movies are a lot more than Kung-Fu these days -

Still pretty hokey, but no hokier than Hollywood CGI robot monster movies from 15 years ago.

uhh... what?

He's spot-on.

Whenever there is a natural disaster like wildfires in California huge numbers of evangelical leaders will say things like "God is punishing California for all its homosexuals" or if a hurricane stomps on New Orleans they blame the city's "debauchery" for God smiting them.

I WOULD expect much better control over depth-of-field in brighter lighting though

The advantage for me with a smaller aperture would be the ability to use a slower shutter speed. A few weeks ago I wanted to take a picture on a sunny day of waves splashing ashore. I wanted to blur them with a slower shutter speed, but I couldn't because the camera in the phone didn't have the option for a smaller iris to compensate for the slower shutter speed.

Can even be charged on a standard plug.

I've had my EV seven years. I've only ever charged it on a "standard plug."

It typically adds ~80km overnight, which is more than enough based on our driving profile.

Additionally, there were not many used EVs on the market to begin with

The other consideration is people aren't switching up their EVs. The first-generation EVs definitely had problems (Nissan Leaf, Kia Soul etc.) but the second generation cars are well designed.

My 2nd-gen EV just hit the 7-year mark. It is still running as well as when I drove off the lot, with next-to-no battery degradation. So I have ne need or desire to trade it in.

I don't think that is completely accurate. My understanding was that winner-take-all systems were the (very slight) minority. Of course I can't easily find any references, because web search sucks these days. Here is data at least showing that a lot of places do some sort of proportional system:

Of course, that doesn't really impact the larger point that if enough of our stupid neighbours decide on something, or are tricked into thinking something, we are totally screwed.

Its a low density, premium heavy cabin precisely because thats what the route demands

When you say "what the route demands" I'm not sure if you're referencing physics, customers, or both.

...because in order to operate a route of this distance, physics dictates that the aircraft has to have less mass - Fewer passengers and fewer bags in the hold. Hence the lower-density configuration. If they made the density higher the plane would be too heavy to manage the route, even with its special design.

It's true that even when you adjust for inflation, a movie ticket is more expensive than the good ol' days.

...but it's also true that the experience is so much better. The stadium seats. The sound. The legroom. (Sure, there are jackasses talking and texting but I tend to be able to choose movies & theaters were there are far fewer of them.)

What's also different is I don't have to go to the movie theater to see a movie as much as I did in the good ol' days. Back then my only options were to pay for a ticket or wait for 12-18 months to rent a VHS tape and watch it on 23" TV or watch it edited & with commercials on the ABC Sunday Night Movie.

(Yeah, I know, HBO was in there somewhere, but I didn't have HBO...)

Movies like Sinners, War of the Worlds, Downton Abbey, Nuremberg etc. etc. etc. I can just watch at home with great picture & sound for free or a fraction of the cost of what I would have paid at the theater. So that more than makes up for the cost when I pay to see The Odyssey in 70mm IMAX.

Science is done by humans, who have bias. It is reviewed by humans, who have bias.

You yourself just broke whatever convoluted point you were trying to make.

It is the very review of scientific work by other scientists that weeds out the bias you allege.

Recent scientific research has demonstrated that the widespread HPV vaccinations have dramatically reduced the instances of cervical cancer - In some cases down to zero.

Those researchers might have had bias (I am not saying they did), but the review of the research by many other independent scientists have shown that the conclusions are sound at that the HPV vaccine rollout has been remarkably effective.

tariffs against violating countries

Goddamit. Trump has been President for 17 months and people still don't seem to understand that a tariff is a tax paid by Americans.

If the scammers are in Bulgaria and an American company is buying specialized industrial equipment from Bulgaria, then that American company pays the tariff. You are in effect punishing that American company because of scammers in Bulgaria.

I imagine that had the person just properly reported all of their income like any "legitimate" tutoring service would do, we would not be reading about this at all.

Oh, and not handing their client a USB drive full of evidence of all their other clients probably would help.

Having a society with so much importance placed on "credentialism" and so little importance placed on being able to actually do things doesn't help.

For every one of you who thrives on these games there are two people who find it deeply tiresome and just want market forces and competition to set a competitive price which allows people to just walk into a dealership (or a website) and buy the car they want.

I suspect both models will exist for some time to come.
