Journal heliocentric's Journal: Quickies: Oreos, Subscriptions, exodus 27
After the giggling of Deamos I thought I would share my review of the "new" Uh-Oh Oreos:
To me regular oreos were just "eh." For some reason I actually kinda like them better stale when they are much softer. But I find myself inhaling the "uh-ohs." They are like eminem, some sorta white thing on the outside that is meaningless and this oh-so-lovely soft dark center that just draws me in. Wait, no, not eminem, I mean like Michael Jackson, no, wait, awww, never mind.
Then, in another post I (with bad spelling) explained that if you subscribe to Slashdot you don't have to have it remove ads, yet you still get many of the plums of being a subscriber. For example, I can list tons more friends, I can see these magical stories from the distant future (I can click links in them and such, just can't preemotively post), and I get messages about relationship changes. It was suggested by Eugene that I JE this concept to get the word out to others, but it is listed in the FAQ that you still get some features just not all if you have your ad-threshold set at a certain level or lower.
Also, it seems banky has decided to leave this greatly boring land that is Slashdot. He has himself setup with his own "external" blog (external meaning like "not on the grid of some provider, he's doing it himself") and a means to get updates about others external blogs. Good for him that this will ultimately make him a happier person, and don't we all want banky to be happy? (He is trained in the use of weapons and other means to hurt your kittens) I will probably now have to start reading off-Slashdot things as I actually cared what banky had to say since (here at least) he didn't ramble on and on about his day-to-day life, just the really good interesting bits.
For the others thinking about doing the same, remember: Door is to your left. Here's hoping it won't make FortKnox get his panties in a bind again.
Update: Duh, yeah. I also forgot to mention that I get https access to Slashdot and that rash of 500 server errors that was a problem recently - not from my seat. And I can go back through previous posts in my (and yours, ha!) history.
I like this since I definately delete the Slashdot message about JE if I replied. This way I can find my replay later and see how the overall discussion in the JE has moved. If I didn't reply but still liked it I hold onto the message for later reading. One or two flame wars later and my single-listing posting-history has spilled, and with a paid account I can scroll back to find that post from just the other day. I'm more prolific than some, but it comes in waves.

I thought that if you entered 0 into the ad-free pages field, you blocked all ads, which would cause me to burn right through my subscription. I assume you mean setting it to 1 instead (I thought this was the lowest you could set ad blocking to while keeping it on). So this works?
