Asking for better police in the USA has been going on for much longer than I've been alive and that's quite a long time.
I've also been alive long enough to remember when overall crime was MUCH worse than today, almost everywhere and most police, again almost everywhere, fit into the ACAB designation.
But over time the police in every advanced Western nation became much better trained and much less of of a gang of bastards with one glaring exception.
BTW "defund the police" meant a lot of things, that are difficult to fit into a short slogan.
Personally, I would have gone with "BETTER cops NOW!"
However if you took the time to actually LISTEN to what was, what has been asked since the days of WEB Du Bois and other notable minority leaders, were entirely reasonable and would have taken away the burden of cops dealing with situations for which they're entirely unsuitable and usually unwilling to handle.
It sucks for those who grew up in dangerous areas but many live to escape them as you did, congrats.
But when you when have a culture of law enforcement where the Thin Blue Line is also the Blue Wall of Silence then the safe society we all prize is endangered and YOU, most of all, should be the LOUDEST voice for change instead of being the most ardent apologist.
Enlisted men and officers are subject to the UCMJ regardless of how stressful and dangerous their missions and postings.
Should police officers, many of whom see themselves as urban warriors also be subject to the UCMJ?
If not then why not?
