Comment College graduate surplus (Score 2) 164

A degree doesn't guarantee a job. The "college for everyone" effort has provided a surplus of college graduates. This is independent of today's political climate or A.I.

Before someone pursues a college degree, they need to be realistic regarding whether or not there is a demand for the degree. Useless "fluff degrees" have little demand. In addition, there is a surplus of C.S. degrees due to their popularity.

Texas is pretty weird about alcohol. They have "precincts" where alcohol is/is not allowed. One side of the street is legal, the other side is not. They also forced drinkers to be "members of a club" and as a result, they came out with a "Unicard" which made you a "member of all of the clubs".

A state where law and fundamentalist religion is a mix.

Add to that, electronic components. I don't see the U.S. making resistors, capacitors and lower functionality integrated circuits.
Shit, we couldn't even make masks during Covid and were dependent upon China for them. We tried subsidizing U.S. companies to make them and failed.

Agree. OTOH, we are dependent upon China for simple things. Remember during Covid and we couldn't even figure out how to make N95 or surgical masks? Even when we subsidized U.S. companies with millions.
Many medical supplies (syringes, surgical supplies) come from China and other countries. We've pissed off Europe, Canada, China, Mexico and little islands inhabited by penguins.

This isn't going to end well.

I haven't seen a movie in the theater since the last remake of Top Gun.
I'm not into the succession of comic book movies. Most of the releases are pure garbage. Add to that, some coughing, wheezing cretin sitting behind me spewing how virus, ridiculously expensive concession items, ridiculously expensive tickets, twenty or thirty minutes of commercials before the move begins.
I stay home and watch the stuff on our LED TV connected to my stereo and some great speakers.
The two movie theaters in my down have both gone out of business (Cinemark and United Artist).
