Comment Re:Agree (Score -1) 131

America's allies were warned for many years on becoming reliant on Russian energy and how that could be used against them in the future. That time has come.

EU countries did that to themselves by cutting off their main natgas supplier, not from any action taken by Russia. And then whistled and looked the other way when the US blew Nordstream.

They're taking infinitely more money from the corrupt worker hating oligarchs that want no taxes (on them) and hate workers - teachers included. Your sense of proportion is broken and priorities misplaced.

It's attritional warfare. One Russia has dominated from the beginning when it was firing four times as many artillery rounds a day than your Nazi pals. Who knows what it is now when the west can barely supply Ukraine with munitions while Russia happily makes millions of rounds per year.

They can keep this pace up indefinitely. NAFO cannot. Russia could easily roll all over Kiev right to the Polish border if they wanted to and were willing to absorb the casualties.

They don't want to.

because they're a dictatorship

Even a non-dictator would have had Juan Guido shot for treason. Instead Maduro (checks notes) gave him a security detail to keep him safe from mobs. Some "dictator".

But the reason Venezuela is hurting so much is because it's a small country and they were literally getting all of their electricity from a huge dam.

Noooo, because their economy has been trashed by bipartisan sanctions from Washington. They also have a great climate for agriculture but can't compete against dumped crops from the United States subsidized below the cost of production.

If land use is a problem then how seriously has Brazil considered nuclear power?

You say that but then complain about this:

Fine, just don't make me subsidize your virtue signalling with government mandates requiring the utility to buy excess energy production.

Nuclear power wouldn't exist without gargantuan subsidies forced out of the pocket of taxpayers. Proving once again that nuclear is an even more unserious religion than Scientology.

Cutting down actually green plant life to make room for so-called "green" energy is not good for the environment.

Good thing that's totally unnecessary then. Existing roofs, parking lots and roads have more than enough space for solar. Wind can be installed in existing farms.

I'm just not a fan of solar panels paving over fertile land.

Solar panels over crops that don't need a combine or full sun are good for both the crops and the panels. The shade is good for the crops and the evaporation cools the panels, improving their performance.

And if I forgot, it's way too costly to possibly be justified? And that your waste will be a problem literally until the sun goes nova?

How many countries have deep decarbonized their grids with just solar and wind?

How much are you ignoring the many decades long head start and many trillions put into nuclear? But to answer your Concern, Germany is on track to do just that with an ever increasing majority of their power coming from renewables.

Nuclear power was still an option after Fukushima.

We've been over this. It only took one big disaster to nuke the case for nuclear power, and you've had two. And again nothing is more reliably unreliable than your radioactive water heaters, which go down for months or even years for maintenance and refueling. Nuclear is an even more deeply unserious religion than Scientology.
