So, "But our car violates Part 15" is not exactly what I'd call a good reason to let them drop AM receivers.

And selling a car that violates Part 15 can cause BIG problems for the owner of the car. The FCC can show up and tell you that you're not allowed to operate your car. So unintentional radiation is something that MUST be fixed no matter whether the car has an AM radio or not. And car manufacturers shipping cars that don't meet Part 15 is eventually going to get them sued, and going to result in them losing and having to pay a LOT of money.

Manufacturers should not even be trying to fight this. Their liability exposure is potentially huge if they're shipping RF noisy cars.

So, the reason for mandating it in cars isn't the right wing talk garbage.

It's the highway information radios. The ones the transportation departments have set up in cities and around construction projects, along with the signs with flashing lights that say things like "tune to 1620 AM when flashing" to let you know there's something going on with the road that you should know about. The low power AM signal propagates further than low power FM would, and the band is less crowded.

And it's not a couple hundred bucks. It's maybe $5 worth of parts. And the car companies can't market it as an add-on if it's mandatory.

AM works just fine in my plug-in hybrid, and those electric motors are spinning any time the car is moving.

Limited screen real estate is never not going to be an issue. I mean, I suppose if I wanted to swivel my head around all the time on a giant multi-monitor setup it might be possible to have enough screen real estate most of the time without overlapping windows, but meh, most of the time I'm on a laptop anyway. And focus follows mouse is just infuriating.

If I'm going to watch a movie, I want it in an environment where I control the lighting, the food, the temperature, and the sound level, and I can hit pause if I want to grab a fresh drink. So I'm probably never going to a movie theater again. The "phone fuckers" (whatever that means) and people who have no interest in you wanting them to shut up are their paying customers now.

Let it go, watch movies at home.

No centralization: One site goes down, inconveniences a few people, problem gets fixed a bit more slowly.

Centralization: A quarter of the internet becomes nonfunctional.

Centralization still seems like a really, really bad idea to me. It makes it MUCH harder for the internet to just route around damage.

There are still good reasons for those dealership laws, they're designed to keep some money in the local communities and ensure that major purchases which require dealer support like vehicles will not be entirely at the whim of a company that has no significant ties to the state.

The fix is to remove the Turdla carveout, not give Rivian another one.
