Comment What does "collapse" mean in this context? (Score 1) 161

What does "collapse" mean in the context of ice sheets? That there will be a sudden avalanche event that will cause a tsunami or that the speed of the glaciers increase 1 %? The word "collapse" makes me associate to something like an avalanche but I suspect they are referring to something like an 1 % increase of speed. But I don't know, so please enlighten me!

Why should low-IQ teachers that supports/forces you to study bad curriculums and are members of unions who think the purpose of schools is to give teachers work, not to provide children with an education be protected against satire?

You really need to see The people vs Larry Flynt again, especially the scene in the court about satire. I am surprised to meet snowflaky attitude on Slashdot of all places.

What do you mean, 5 year old shoes can't be in good condition if they are used? Most of my day-to-day use shoes are older than 5 years (and several "shoes for special occasions" are much older but if you only use them once or twice/year that doesn't say much), with the oldest from 2009. Of course, these are leather shoes with Goodyear welt, not "sneakers" because I am adult. Try Redwing shoes.

Exactly. This is not a tech/cultural/moral/whatever issue, this is a women-are-stupid issue. If someone writes an "adult novel" using the name of an existing person, no one would believe it is a true story. Everyone knows that AI can generate very naturalistic looking images these days, so why do women think that people seeing an image of them think that the viewer would believe the image is authentic? Occam's razor says that it is AI. Women are completely irrational and emotionally controlled, and that is why they don't realise this. But their irrationality and emotionality is their problem, not the surroundings, and they should grow up and start acting like adults, rather than getting "anxious" over fake images.

I question your premise "above-inflation appreciation of real estate".

The standard and size of everything has increased a lot, and if you consider that, the prices most likely rises slower than inflation. Everything else behaves like that. When my current flat was built 90 years ago, it was intended for 2 adults and 1-2 kids. Now I live alone in it and it is considered small for an adult (people would say it is an ok flat for someone that just left their parents house, but you should move to something bigger in 5 years or so).

No, they don't. Trust me, I am a libertarian. It is approximately the same distance to both, but in different areas, economy vs social policy.

Try the Political Compass, that is a two dimensional political scale and see for yourself.

No, that is not how it works. S&B are much less price sensitive than GS because they get/appreciate another type of return from the "object" than GS, a stable accommodation that they can fit to how they want things. Furthermore, their time horizon is much longer than GS, they expect to live there 10-15 years and can postpone moving a few years if it happens to be economic downturn when they plan to move on. And besides, if you own property 10-15 years, even if you bought at the top and sell at the bottom, you still will have made a healthy profit.

In other words, S&B are much less price sensitive than GS, who must turn a profit from its investment from day 1.

(S&B might need to buy something slightly smaller or attractive, but so what? How did their parents live? Did the parents live in misery? Not really, eeh?)
