So this thing is slop? Even more reasons not to use it. It means everything not specified in detail is suspect, missing, broken or insecure and maintenance will be an absolute nightmare.
The only chance any small team is going to have of making an alternative web browser is to leverage LLMs.
Not saying these guys will succeed, but if not, LLM use is not the reason why.
Modern JavaScript and CSS are insanely complex
I very much want real alternatives though, and I do genuinely wish you success!
"Teams is shit!"
The search is buggy / weird
Apparently Element Pro is just another closed source program. So not sure why it's supposed to be so much better. The same people who hate the US tend to also hate the UK.
BC200 is found only in humans and related primates
Well apparently not; it's also found in at least one virus?
LLMs don't capitalize "Daughter" either. Or write as he did at all.
I mean, it sounds like a coincidence and he sounds like a kook. But not like an LLM.
In America if you want to have computers you need to vote democrat
OMG I think he's serious
Yes, you'll get promised some RAM in every pot ("a chicken in every pot").
What you'll get though is some studies on the racial equity of RAM or something like that.
The initial instinct is correct. Parent is off his rocker. Simple formula is to make having 2.1 kids on average easy and pleasant. IMHO that means -free childcare from 4 months to Kindergarten -free public schools K-12 that are good nationwide -Very low cost education incl state colleges and training + apprenticeships for trades -Affordable health care -Available work that pays the bills, keeps up with inflation, puts a roof over your head
There are solutions to each of these none of which require unseemly new -ism's nor Eisenhower era 90% tax brackets. But it does require taming the corporate and political interests that have effectively sabotaged childcare, education, healthcare, retirement and wages. We see it again and again decade after decade, and somehow don't have the stones to fix it. Oh, and the foreign wars. Those have proved to be absolute wastes of treasure. Back to watching the intro to Idiocracy again
Oh, sure. That's why native Europeans are so fecund, after all!
You realize all your "solutions" have been tried, right?
We should be at about negative one million family farms in the US by now. Because trend lines never change
10% brighter every year. How long until we go supernova?
The underlying social reason why it should be this way is that copyright is (allegedly) for the purpose of protecting human effort in order to induce additional creations.
First, I would question empirically whether copyright (as normally applied; distinct from copyleft) has even served that goal, for software. I mean in my opinion, the best recent innovations from Microsoft have been 1. open sourcing a lot of stuff, and 2. WSL
Secondly, the use of copyright against LLMs serves (again, empirically) as an attempt to suppress creations.
The other argument to be made about LLMs not washing away copyright is that even if they were considered to be thinking, that is arguably not enough to make what they do legal. Even for humans we have the concept of taint, for which we invented clean room engineering as a circumvention strategy. But the LLM doesn't have any separation, as the model is a direct product of the input data.
That's a fair point.
Good god, this does seem like a disaster in the making. Glad I use Libre Office. Will we have cells in cells all the way down? It is supposed to be a spread sheet, understandable, for crissake!
"It's full of cells!"
AI code should have to meet the same standards as any other code so that's not the problem, it's the copyright issue. If using AI doesn't wash away copyrights, and there's no reason it should, then accepting AI code should be a non-starter.
See, the devil's advocate in me can't get past the question of why "washing" code through a brain is better?
I didn't invent, say, php. I learned from being exposed to countless examples of it.
When I "write my own code", I'm surely drawing on those examples. Which examples, under what licenses? Who knows?
Yet somehow that's okay.
Ah, you've discovered the arms race.
And yes, all you can do is complain about it. You actually can't opt out of it. But please, carry on
