I used to do malware at a web hosting company. While Russia definitely used to be a big source, it wasn't the only one. They used to be from all over the world, with the poorer countries featuring higher up.

I remember in one case I found it to be some dude from Atlanta, who was doing this for âoehookers, coke and boozeâ (paraphrased).

Back in 2016, I ordered a Netgear R7800 off eBay. It was a seller refurbished item and priced to sell.

When it arrived the router was behaving really weird and was loaded with a very old fw. Also the 2.4G network didn't work at all, apart from other oddities.

It has since worked great, once I reset the NVRAM, flashed to OpenWRT and then back.

At the time, I had assumed it was just buggy old fw, but I wonder if it wasn't just that

Yeah, that is considering that you know there is an infection in the first place. If you have no idea of an infection, even physical air gapped drives will contain infected data.

A comprehensive 3-2-1 backup strategy, based on snapshot based captures which store the delta changes over time will be far more effective.

Mozilla should stick to it's core business and focus on FireFox & Thunderbird. There is no reason to be wasting money on anything else.

Being a non-profit, their ONLY goal should be ensure the future survival of it's core products. Not trying to be another startup, chasing down fever dreams of AI

Mozilla should focus on making Firefox a good browser and that is it.

They should not be wasting money going after stupid ideas like open source AI or trying to find new sources of revenue.

Is the management getting kickbacks to explore these things or are they just trying to destroy the only competition to Chrome?
