For all the people saying "hurr, durr, emergencies!", I've been around for awhile and never in my entire life have I needed an AM radio "for emergencies", and that includes in earthquakes, floods, tornadoes, and a (small) tsunami. I carried out an informal poll of a few folks who have been around for rather longer than I have, including one whose life experience goes back almost to the dawn of radio, and none of them could recall ever needing an AM radio "for emergencies" except for the near-centenarian who remembers listening to the radio for warnings about which city the bombers were heading for so they could go down to the cellar. In addition, apart from the near-centenarian, none of them actually owned a radio, or at least new where it was and whether it worked, and the near-centenarian only uses it to listen to Internet streaming because "the AM stations are all rubbish".

The oldest currently operating satellite that can still transmit a communication signal is AMSAT-OSCAR 7 (AO-7).
While it is an amateur radio satellite rather than a commercial television broadcasting satellite, it remains the absolute oldest active piece of communications hardware in space.
That satellite is only a small amateur radio "relay", it is operational since 52 years, on solar power.
