You don't walk the streets much, do you? Observation will show you that most folk don't use their cellphones for making calls any more. In fact, I wonder if half of them don't even know that a cellphone can do that!

Of the rest, a good proportion have no idea how to use a cellphone to make or answer a call! I see people all the time: holding their cellphones horizontally to their ear, usually with the microphone end nearest, horizontally in front of their faces with either end closest to their mouths, people in speaker mode just shouting at their mystery gadget with little idea how it actually works. Even older folk who should know better do some of these dumb things.

On the other hand, you're right. I don't want to have a video call to a call center to be left watching an orchestra playing hold music.

In the UK most copper lines are either in underground conduits, from which they can be pulled easily, or overhead from the last pole to the property.

The unreasonable costs are having to learn a whole new set of admin commands that could previously have been done with a line of Bash. When things go wrong I haven't got time for any of that nonsense. systemctl? journalctl? networkctl? The list goes on.
