My, I should have gotten an account like a year before I did... I remember when Rob told me about /. on #Linux96 and so I was like, ok sure I'll check it out... then it became Slashdot... and finally I was like, damn, perhaps I should have an account. I could have had a cool reader #. :( Maybe even in the double digits lol.

Ok, yeah this comment adds exactly zero to the conversation. Sorry.

I do want to say I remember when Bruce and Eric were coming out of the office after they were having meetings about this stuff when I worked at VA... I'd be like "Larry, wtf were they doing in there?" and he'd be like "Shut up Trae and get back to work." Actually, no, he would just tell me what they were doing; Larry is a super nice guy. I'm old, I'm rambling and I just wanted to post.

Jeff, Rob, etc... if you read this, I finally turned 50. Yeah... I'm getting old AF. Miss all you guys, hope you are well.

FYI, snowflakes and fragile egos didn't appear magically. They are a product on their environment, and as a Slashdot 6-digiters you are old enough to share part of the blame as it happened on your watch. Stop bitching and start doing something about it, such as mentoring young people at work or boycotting Google and Facebook for their roles in accelerating this self-centered trend.

What do you mean by "Slashdot 6-digiter"?

I remember when the guys (Larry, Eric, etc..) came out of the room from this meeting. Eric was telling me about this newly coined phrase "Open Source". Chris DiBona and I'm not sure if Joe was there... several other guys too. It was really a great time to be alive and for me, being a fly on the wall.... it was amazing. The Feb 98 meeting is the first time I heard the term "Open Source" and I'm inclined to believe that was it's birth. Not sure about anything else.

Comment Re:On top of KDE? (Score 1) 137

KDE, has long since been quite bloated as well as suffering from interaction with a lot of "normal" gtk based apps: (Think Firefox). When one app has its native UI built in one toolkit and another has it's UI built with another toolkit, you aren't going to get a seamless look and feel. My problem with KDE (And I've used it on and off since KFM 1.0) is that a lot of the main apps I use are GTK based; whenever you use KDE it always feels a bit slow and hoggish. The themes never seem quite well thought out and always feel "tacked on". There really needs to be a clean theme such as Adapta for QT/KDE but the problem again is going to come back to those "pesky" gtk apps getting in the way of the overall feel and cohesion.

I'm not getting down on KDE, nor do I think it's a bad desktop. There are some cool features, but yeah... I'm interested in seeing what is up with this new Nitrux desktop.

I've been running Cinnamon on top of Ubuntu 17.04 lately and while it's ok, I always wish there was something a bit better.

So I was a 93F with the 101st and one of the first things we did when we got in country was take a trip into Iraq. I was amazed at the HUGE giant amount of tanks I saw as we approached our area to run a met mission(fly a weather balloon lol). As we got closer and closer... I started to notice something. About 50 feet away, I noticed there were wires holding these inflatable vehicles down and let out the biggest cackle you'd ever heard. It was brilliant.

We were there as a part of the GHOST ops to make it look like stuff was happening. Pretty smart if you think about it.

Not sure if anyone is interested, but we have a really nice community with guilds (Both factions) on WoW, Wildstar, SW:TOR and more. http://exinferno.com/ We are building for WoD, The Division, Destiny and a few others. Great crew, fun but focused folks.

Hope to see some of you around! Would be great if I could get Jeff and Rob and others to come join me but I think they already have a server they play on. Btw, I've gone by "Sick" for the past 7 years or so instead of OctobrX. Heh. Moo!
