Why would they stop working on a replacement when they know that their continued access to this market is completely dependent on the whims of a particularly mercurial orange asshat who changes his mind more often than some people change their socks?

This just fills the current short-term need. They will still continue their development of replacements because it's still in their long-term interest to do so.

You've really gotta be trying to fuck yourself to get into a position where you're being license-audited.

For a lot of people, it only takes signing one contract with Oracle, which grants them rights to audit you on anything and everything, and make you pay out the ass if they find anything.

That's kind of their business model.

You would think. Unless you have useless IT monkeys that install a whole bunch of shit that is constantly doing crap in the background and ruining the experience.

I was given a Dell notebook at my job that should run circles around just about everything with the hardware in there, and it boots and runs slower than a 5 year old Dell because of all the Crowdstrike bullshit, other security agents, the workarounds necessary due to non-admin users for software delivery, etc. It's terrible.

If I could wipe the thing and put Linux on it, I would.

Say what you will about Windows (and I've said quite a bit) but it's power management does seem to be better about reaching lower C-states than Linux on the same hardware. I routinely see better battery life on Windows than Linux, but also routinely see more productivity on Linux than dealing with all the Windows bullshit, so it's probably a wash in the end.

Yes, this is how I feel about Muslims, Christians, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, Agnostics, Atheists, or any other religion. And if more people felt that way, the world would be a far better place.

Fuck your stereotypes, and fuck you for trying to paint people with some kind of bigot-brush searching for a gotcha moment.

If that's your take, then the next time you file taxes you better not use a tax preparation service or accountant to "help fill out all the paperwork to look as legal as possible."

And heaven forbid you get arrested for something - you better not have a lawyer represent you to help navigate the criminal justice system and make your actions look as legal as possible.

Utterly moronic.

Republicans don't need to justify any of their statements with supporting evidence any more. We are supposed to take anything said by a Republican as God's own gospel, unquestioningly, and asking for any kind of supporting evidence just means you have "Trump Derangement Syndrome."

On the other hand, no amount of supporting evidence will ever be enough to justify the opinions or policy stances of "liberals" where "liberal" is defined as "not-MAGA." It will be a never-ending Gish Gallop of nonsense and sea-lioning until the point of giving up, at which point a variation of "See! They couldn't prove it to MY satisfaction, therefore it's fake!" will be deployed.

It's a cult, not a political party. Politics can be discussed and compromise can be found. There is no compromise with a cult.
