Japan from what I could gather is even more toxic, they do not expect you to work all the time, but you habe to be in the office at least as long as your boss is, now your boss has to do the same for his boss etc... in the end everybody stays for long hours and does not dare to take vacations because some upper level maniac thinks his office is his home!
Productivitity over 8 hours zero but staying there is semi mandatory and then going out with your colleques as well...

The bad news is, that 1-2 generations will have to do the cleanup if civilisatiion can recover this shitshow alltogether!

It used to be different, if you did not buy high end then there were vital features missing or the speed not enough, but then the high end price became mid range and now high end often is more expensive than a notebook computer, and what you got in mid range quality a few years ago now is low range and the gap between high end and low end often is just price and a few minor things!

It is only rewarding in the initial learning curve but once you have shifted for years there are no rewards or fun in it anymore. As for thinking ahead, forget it, again a few years into shifting you do it automatically, you see that you have reached a certain speed you shift. All it does at that stage is to take a tiny amount of your concentration away from driving safely and you get delays during starting at green lights because you have to manually shift! For the car makers it was heavens sent however, because manual shifting is cheaper for them, they sold it over here in europe as being "sporty" but the fun stuff is, that race cards have gone semi automatic at least in F1 decades ago because it gave them a huge advantage!
