Comment Nature is fine (Score 1) 59

Nature is perfectly fine, it is trying to rid itself of us and it will absolutely thrive once it succeeds, as it has for millennia.

This whole discussion and narrative of us saving nature is entirely backwards and asinine. The truth is, we desperately want to save ourselves, but it sounds nicer to claim we care about nature.

Nature has been just fine without us, and it will be just great without us. And while we are still around, nature also evolves and changes and adapts to our shenanigans. e.g. the polar bears population in Svalbard is exploding! They learned to eat reindeer, and the occasional tourist that looks like a very plump seal.

All of this works just fine now and is very user friendly to setup, mostly fully automatic. Even for NVIDIA; but you could choose an AMD card if you do not want to taint the kernel, if this even matters to you personally.
Just pick one of the big distros, they are all definitely good and stable enough by now.

Linux has seriously become a more than good-enough option over the last couple of years.

Bazzite etc none-withstanding, I do hope Steam will officially open their SteamOS for general PC hardware. This would give the Linux desktop another huge boost!
And your hardware will last much longer than some stupid bloated OS from redmond tries to make you believe, and you will not be farmed for all your personal data.

So all you can actually do is read the tea leaves and guess a lot. Even their housing is fake and just for a massive investment-bubble bigger than the one that haunts Japan until today; how is all this not just another gigantic F-15 vs Russian-super-magic-airplane moment where it turns out the commies are not all we thought they were? China is facing a massive downturn in military-aged population and lots of retirement and a disillusioned youth, cheap mass manufacturing is moving out of China, they have very few actual high value high margin products.
Their entire economic success is based on capitalist western theories they imported from western professors. Their entire car industry was literally built up by the naive Germans who bent over backwards to give them the entire process from R&D all the way to mass manufacturing, automation and robots. Germany could not have given them more and faster than they already were - this will be a picturebook perfect example of how to replace yourself as quickly as you humanly and logistically can without holding a single strategic advantage back.

The real worry should be, with so much electricity that could give China a boost in AI but like pretty much everything else, the technological expertise for almost everything modern is still held in the US where the research and technological advances are happening, and China just copies everything they can grab and espionage from all over.

Then we turn around and performatively marvel at them.. at our own copies and stolen technologies and inventions we gave them. The entire West has pushed and lifted China for decades, with both hands.

They can only blindly follow religious dogma, oiling and chants, to do basic maintenance of these ancient machines.

It seems to me we get closer to this reality quickly, because almost no youngens nowadays have any idea how all that technology they use daily actually works but they know how to perform the sacred rite of power-cycling the internet router.

These vibe-coded delights will have violent ends.

The people going hogwild on tenants are the ones who got crazy credit payments every month, they do not actually own anything (yet), they just saw the generational door for ever becoming mildly rich closing so they ran for it and grabbed whatever properties they could claw up and sold their soul to the banks for it. The bank can only win, and the landlord hassles the tenant because the gun is against the head of the landlord. That is how properties only ever eventually shift upward and more and more assets are held in fewer and fewer hands.
