Teachers used to enjoy carving a special underdog-superhero role in society for themselves, when in reality the vast majority of teachers are not only pretty useless and clueless in teaching, they are often detrimental to learning and motivation of the students. And their declining salaries began to reflect how replaceable they always were. Now we got the comparison studies proving all that. There will be some cultural resistance and screeching about this, I am sure I will get nodded down, but it is not wrong, it reflects reality. A too big portion of teachers never been doing a great job, society just liked to claque for them for some reason.
I cannot help but feel a great sense of vindication and justice, when I look back at some of the abysmal teachers I was subjected to and all the stories I heard and read.
And universities should not just foster communication, they should have always given students chances to work on real issues, studies and projects. Universities should have always given students connections for when they are finished studying, so they can more easily transition into research or other job roles. This will differentiate a regular from a great university, how quickly you can get a job once your degree is finished.
