Comment Re: Unfortunately, they didn't use CC-BY-SA (Score 1) 35

But 3e did give us Paizo's "Pathfinder" RPG (after WotC screwed them over the first time), and that was so successful it gave us "Pathfinder 2e". I've been playing D&D since it came out in the '70s and hands down PF2E is the superior system.

The beauty of Paizo is that all of the rules are 100% free, and online at 2e Archives of Nethys. As are the full rule set for PF1E and StarFinder 1E! These are just the mechanics of the system, so pretty light on the Lore of Golarion, their default setting.

But with PF2E Remaster (again, brought to us by WotC trying to screw them over a second time) it's published under their own ORC license, and the "Remaster" part is Paizo overhauling the system to finally get rid of 99.9% of all D&D vestiges so WotC can never, ever, come at them again.

Congress is broken.

It's 100% an abdication of professional duty.

They were all sworn in and took an oath to defend the constitution. The facts laid bare over the past few months clearly and unequivocally show that they're failing to do just that.

The executive branch has broken many, many laws, and yet congress has failed to act. And just yesterday the Speaker of the House showed this administration's true colors when he adjourned the House for over a week, simply because 4 Republicans dared to vote against the party, and instead voted for what's right.

Slashdotters: Is "spacepimp" (now) a reply bot?

Read through its replies, note the overwhelmingly consistent syntax and paragraph structure. After a few you'll start to 'hear' the "engagement tone" bots use.

Go back further and you'll see an abrupt demarcation between 1/13/2025 and 1/20/2025. After the 20th it seems to me this quickly becomes full-on reply bot postings. Before the 13th these seem to be pretty standard /. postings.

I've gotten rather good at spotting these on Bluesky. They seem designed to slightly antagonize / challenge in the tone of the reply, containing one or more queries, to engage a human and suck up their time, and energy.

I've yet to see a reply bot reply to a reply bot...

This is a business paper in the United States. Of course they're going to OpEd a piece saying that changing the privacy laws didn't matter, since it drives the narrative that losing your privacy shouldn't matter.

At no point should anyone, anywhere, trust what major news organizations in the USA publish. They're all owned by Republicans, and they all push their agenda in subtle, and not-so-subtle, ways.

Since it's become more and more apparent that no tech company is going to be able to withstand the continuing invasion of our digital privacy, what are Slashdotter's recommendations for security?

WIRED.com posted this on Bluesky today: The WIRED Guide to Protecting Yourself From Government Surveillance, and it seems like some sound advice, but it's overly complicated for a non-technical user to implement.

Any and all suggestions on Apple Ecosystem Security would be greatly appreciated!

It was also because a Slashdotter made a comment (paraphrased), "Pokemon Go plays like a Web App that someone placed in a Mobile Wrapper and dumped on the market." Didn't really think too much of it at the time...

However once I saved up and finally purchased a 'Flagship Phone' to play with, I was (somewhat) gutted by the abysmal performance it had. There really wasn't that much of a difference between my 4 year old phone vs. my brand new phone.

If the Executive Branch is performing an audit on itself (and let's pretend for a second that they have the legal authority to do this [Narrator: "They Don't..."]) then why did Elon take in programmers and not forensic accountants ?

And before you once again prove that your user name is a lie, I'll give you a hint, "The primary oversight and auditing power over the executive branch lies with the legislative branch, specifically the Government Accountability Office (GAO), which provides independent audits and reports to Congress to ensure proper use of taxpayer funds." You might note with your towering intellect that DOGE isn't mentioned.

Here's a fun fact (APNEWS.COM) "The parade of executive orders Trump signed on his first day in office included one renaming the U.S. Digital Service as the U.S. DOGE Service. It further directed that DOGE be established within the Executive Office of the President." Which would seem to indicate that it's part of the Executive branch. (Please see prior facts about auditing...)

Elon may have the blessing of Agent Orange, but he has no legal authority to do most of what he's been doing.
