Unfortunately...that's not quite true. Steam, and especially Valve's games, have done quite well, despite the customer not owning the game.
..they could do the same thing with Halo for PC. I don't think that's necessarily the reason.
Please note that this also includes buying things on Steam.
It's open source, it's gonna take a while to catch up
No no no, you got it wrong. It'd be "xXxSEPIROTH666xXx".
But seriously, I was under the impression that the multiplayer "story" was going to be unlocked as you gained levels, somehow. I don't think it'd be like WoW, where everyone is in the same map.
Except when it's something you agree with, and in that case ballot stuffing is great! Or so I'm told whenever I bring up ballot stuffing.

That brings back bad memories. Had to reinstall Kubuntu because something got seriously messed up. I test out my backups. They restored just fine. I wipe the disk, and put Kubuntu back on. Try to restore the backups and....no luck.
"Why cant people see this? Its posted again and again, and the pro-piracy kids just don't want to hear it."
I think you answered your own question.
I think it's partly because the target audience is probably not likely to pirate anyways. Perhaps because they don't want to piss off a large group of people with DRM? A much larger group than would normally care.
Who knows. Just a conspiracy theory.
it'll appear in some other Slashdot thread until CmdrTaco does a fsck.
So it's going to be in another thread for eternity?
Wow, that is quite unfortunate!
I remember seeing that at one point, the Steam Terms of Service said that they were not required to unlock games. Unless the ToS have changed, that trumps whatever Newell says.
That does not compute.
