Ah, making fun of innocent people in Texas who are now dead. Very impressive. Do you get extra pleasant reactions to know that the death toll is rising, and best of all, that many missing are children? Your hate really isn't a good look.

A 10MW neighborhood scale reactor requires negligible transmission/distribution infrastructure cost which partially offsets the lower physical efficiency of the small reactor. That improves time to market, and delivered energy could be close to a large reactor, as long as operating costs are significantly lower.

Gweihir just enjoys disagreeing with me. He thinks I am _ignorant_. The under slashes are apparently important.

One does not have to be a NucE to understand that there is an issue that happens when you push materials to their limits. Part of safety should be not doing that.

And one of the issues with pushing things hard is the contempt that some have with regulations. The human factor. The pushing hard and contempt combo makes for issues.

It is my considered opinion that if there is going to be a future for nuclear generated electricity, it will be with reactor designs that are more akin to Toyota Corollas than Top fuel dragsters -to use a car analogy.

That is because you are _ignorant_. The only reason nuclear reactors are large is that their relative cost gows down strongly with size. They are still not cost effective at the largest sizes we can build, though and that is with massive lying about the total cost.

Yes, is there some reason you think I don't know the economies of scale. Most respectfully, I've spent a number of years working with NucE's, working with research reactors, did the whole daily dosimeter thing, and while you might think I have no idea of what I'm talking about, they respected my reasoning, if not all agreed with it. I can let the ones who agreed with me, know that despite their degrees and personal knowledge, they are as you put it _ignorant_ .

What I was doing was flow visualization to study what happens if cavitation causes an interruption in cooling fluid. Which by the way, becomes much more important at large scale. But you already knew that, amirite?

Which makes for an irresistible target. I want my adversative to go that Big freaking reactor route - much cheaper to irradiate their land and take out as much power with as little expenditure as possible.

Now, looking at https://ancillary-proxy.atarimworker.io?url=https%3A%2F%2Fnric.inl.gov%2Fdome%2F. that thing has a strong SL-1 vibe.

Now, micro-reactor also has a mental image of a little room with a tiny reactor in it, in real life it will have some size to it.

Other strange things though. The one unit is claimed to have a 5 year life. If you have to replace the reactor at that short an interval, just use it full time, and cut ties to the grid. They promote it as emergency power. Starting and stopping the reactor based on the grid just seems weird.

The other thing is we have to remember that just because it has micro in the name, it is still a lot of energy trapped inside a small space. Micro sounds like a tiny thing, safe as can be.

One of the issues with these things is people - sometimes the manufacturers and contractors - get pretty complacent, and often hostile to regulations. See the recent issues in the Virgil C. Summer nuclear expansion project in South Carolina.

It's still an energetic genie we have trapped in a containment vessel, despite the cute name.

I've also said it is feasible to build very safe nuclear power plants - just an engineering issue. But the Engineers aren't the ones pulling the strings here, it is bean counters and MBA's. Can they be held at bay? I often think that while the plants can be safe, it's only if humans aren't involved.

I guess we'll see here, I've probably pissed everyone off with my analysis! 8^)

Yes - Texas is in the United States, although every time a Democrat is elected president, they threaten to secede. It takes a bit of the wind out of their sails when the reply is "Okay by us!" Perhaps I need to explain a little deeper.

It is pretty obvious that especially in 2016 to 2000, that Mexico was not on Trump's Christmas card list. Remember how he was going to force Mexico to pay for his big beautiful wall, the wall that was going to keep the USA illegal immigrant free, as part go Making America Great Again? Keeping the Mexicans who are rapists out?

You do know that the screwworm issue caused the US to stop importing beef from Mexico? Seems like making that permanent would. be a great way to get back at those retreads from Mexico.
