There hasn't been anything worthwhile on AM since Paul Harvey died, and not much even before that. I try to listen to it every time I drive my old truck (because it only has AM) and give up in frustration every time.
Cameras are not the problem. Everyone has cameras these days. I do not care if the local transportation department or highway department monitors the roads or has the ability to pull up a recording to determine the cause of a crash or some other event in the public space.
The network / database / AI detection of license plates / car color make model and features such as decals / facial features/ TPMS monitors / Bluetooth and WI-FI signals is the problem, and indefinite cataloguing of all of the above compounds that problem. Those are the features which turn the whole enterprise into warrantless mass surveillance.
When NEST or whoever was going to do the same thing with doorbell cameras--to track "lost pets" is also problematic for many of the same reasons: the police can gain access to it arbitrarily.

Well, there have to be correct incentives for someone to be in software, I got into it because I liked the idea of being able to control a machine, to be able to tell a computer what to do and it would do it.
Would I have the same interest in it 40 years ago if controlling the computer meant writing in human language that is imprecise and nuanced and receiving back code that I couldn't start to comprehend? Maybe, maybe not, I am not sure actually. If there was still a way for me to do this without the AI I probably would have gone that route but how many people today would do it? I mean people are telling Agents to write their letters for them, not code, just letters. People are telling agents to do all sorts of things, all of which probably saves some time, make some errors, creates some problems while solving others, it is just that none of it is actually understood by the user.
How many AI users understand how any of it works? But that was the point, to understand how the thing works to be able to control it.
It is similar to car mechanics, people who like to tinker with cars, how interesting is it to tinker with a car where you are not allowed to understand half of it and you cannot fix most of it, if something breaks you have to order an entire replacement part because it has a built in computer interface.

The technology that was highlighted in that movie originated around that time or a bit before. It goes by several names, but WAMI (wide area motion imagery) is kind of the generic term; it allows a forensic tech to rewind and track objects (people, vehicles) after an event. With AI and persistent vision, bottomless data center storage, it will allow everything / everyone to be tracked at all times. People don't know that this is already deployed over many large cities; essentially global hawk drones with high resolution hemispherical cameras constantly flying patterns, watching everything.
