They're really not going to sell ten times, certainly not a hundred times, as many $20 doing so, so there's no way they can skim off the corps if they program their AIs properly.

UNIX started at around 8k, and the entire Linux kernel could happily sit in the lower 1 megabyte of RAM for a long time, even with capabilities that terrified Microsoft and Apple.

The original game of Elite occuped maybe three quarters of a 100k floppy disk and used swapping and extensive use of data files to create a massive universe that could be loaded into 8k of RAM.

On a 80386SX with 5 megabytes of RAM (Viglens were weird but fun) and a 20 megabyte hard drive, running Linux, I could simultaneously run 7 MMORGs, X11R4, a mail server, a list server, an FTP server, a software router, a web server, a web cache, a web search engine, a web browser, and stil have memory left over to play Netrek, without slowing anything down.

These days, that wouldn't be enough to load the FTP server, let alone anything else.

On the one hand, not everything can be coded to SEL4 standards (although SEL4, by using Haskell as an initial language to develop the core and the proofs, was able to cut the cost of formal programming to around 1% of the normal value). On the other hand, a LOT of space is gratuitously wasted.

The Telegraph - this one talks about China and its complete automation of production lines, speed to manufacture and deliver the final product. The West is done, it cannot compete, I wrote this here decades ago, once the West loses its manufacturing due to inflation, money manipulation, regulations and taxation, it will lose its engineering and then its education and science. In any case, what the West lost a long time ago is its ability to manufacture anything quickly and cheaply, its ability to manufacture anything domestically because of all of the combined costs, rules, laws, taxes, basically the cost of government and all of the socialism.

The West cannot manufacture because socialism cannot produce, it can only consume, that's how the USSR died as well, this is the path for the West if it doesn't reform and it won't.

The car manufacturers are correct, the so called 'laws' are garbage. Europe and the USA are going to lose all of their manufacturing, China will win in this manufacturing war and that's all there will be.

The solution is easy. WiFi 6 is only just starting to come out in the marketplace. If TP-Link hijacks the standard development procedure, solidifies a workable WiFi 8 quickly, and manufacturers/users in Europe, Asia, and Oceana all start using WiFi 8, skipping WiFi 7 entirely, the US will be left with an inferior standard that only they have gear for, with no option to use WiFi 8 for many more years because the only manufacturers making it can't sell in the US.

Honest truth: restructuring based on changing business. We did the same thing when Cloud happened. And two decades earlier when the Internet happened.

I work at one of the big companies involved in this situation. All I know is, we cannot deploy solutions fast enough for the number of customers we have much less the rate at which demand is growing.

Many are startups and many are big companies still doing pilot projects. It all could go away. But it is not just VC dollars and George Forman AI Grills; at least for the Fortune500 types, there is an awful lot of actual business efficiency being realized or they would not keep sending us money and requests for more capacity/lower latency

That feature has been baked into mobile operating systems for quite a while now; If you're just listening to something, it's automagically accounted for; I forget what Bluetooth spec that was introduced with. Video frames are buffered a bit behind the audio and it all syncs up so you don't feel like you're watching a kungfu movie dubbed in English. Where it is a problem is actual interactive programs. Games, music making programs etc. where user inputs regularly need to by synced to the sound. No way around it.

For example, the use of the anthrax vaccine was halted when it made a whole bunch of those young able bodied men late to go to war back in 2004. There were all manner of congressional hearings about it; then they modified its use guidelines to include only soldiers likely to encounter it (basically nobody outside of bioterror units), scaled back the dose, and also reduced the number of doses.

Neither would have any of the other anti-consumer policy changes that are liable to financially molest you.
