No, the president is elected by the states. Members of Congress are elected by the people.

Some have voiced an opinion that the president should be elected by the people, but so far, we have not yet amended the constitution to permit that.

Pretty soon they'd stop inflicting their stupid selfish ideas on the general public.

My HDD on my laptop with VGA grayscale had 40MB, the Zip disk 100 MB. It was basically a permanent extension of my early 90 DOS setup. I could even run it off my Highscreen Handheld pocket PC. The cable was pretty thick, but you could do it. Awesome. It never failed me and I eventually decommissioned it and moved all my zip disks to one CD. 8-)

Nice. Speaking as a New Mexican, these sound like my kind of people.

Does that sum it up or did I miss something?

I fundamentally don't get why companies like this aren't trash stock from day one.

The thing is, I like slave labor, when the slaves are machines. I want to work Bender 24 hours a day, and if he complains about it, I'll deny him his alcohol ration! Fuckin' clankers and skinjobs don't have any rights to infringe.

The catch to that, is that over here on my side of the ocean, I don't see and can't inspect Bender working way over in China, so I can't be sure the drudgery is experienced by the 6502 in Bender's head. How do I know he isn't just relaying commands to his servos and motors, which were sent by the teleworking Apu in India, doing the Waymo thing?

Submission + - Slowbooks, AI coded cleanroom re-imagined Quickbooks (github.com)

Archangel Michael writes: The Story
VonHoltenCodes ran QuickBooks 2003 Pro for 14 years for side business invoicing and bookkeeping. Then the hard drive died. Intuit's activation servers have been dead since ~2017, so the software can't be reinstalled. The license paid for is worthless.

So he built his own replacement, transferred all his data from the old .QBW file using IIF export/import.

The codebase is annotated with "decompilation" comments referencing QBW32.EXE offsets, Btrieve table layouts, and MFC class names — a tribute to the software that served him well for 14 years before its maker decided it should stop working.

This is a clean-room reimplementation. No Intuit source code was available or used.
