Journal zogger's Journal: Are you noticing bank or credit card or trading weirdness? 6

This is sort of just a general query, especially for US and Candian folks. In light of the "cyber terror" alert as regards banks/stock market/ other financial concerns (I put the article up at technocrat and slashdot has one as well), have you noticed anything odd or unusual the past week or so at your bank or brokerage or with credit card transactions, either at stores or ATMs or over the phone? There was to me a very interesting point raised in the /. discussion, something I also noted but held back on until now,and it didn't get much commentary when it should have, IMO. This is rather coincidental with the dollar slide, etc, that is going on right now. What I am looking for is "too cute" apparently coincidental happenings.

thanks in advance. I am really into threat analysis and mitigation as a sort of involved hobby and interest and I look for clues like this all the time. I have been more than concerned lately wth economic matters (on a geopolitical scale) and something just isn't right to me, it's too...harried. pinched. Too overtly cheery when it should be quite a bit more gloomy. Thanks again.

  • If a company is the target of an electronic "terror attack", including but not limited to financial information, telephone hijacking, or transaction processing, and that attack provokes a federal investigation, nobody involved is allow to speak of it. Everything must appear as business as usual, and any blips are quickly explained under the rug.

You're on the right track by looking for these "coincidences", but aren't going to get verifiable information.

thanks for the reply, and I want to clarify. I don't think there is any attack. I *do* think they could well use the excuse of an attack to..do something, I don't know what yet..to change or modify the markets, perhaps to forestall a general crash of the dollar (my best guess). We have too many big players now who have gone public saying they are more than annoyed with US monetary policy. Major bankers from japan, china, various european folks, russia, various big middle eastern wealth gents, etc, etc. The
      • They don't have to attack us over the intertubes if they are finally fed up with our monetary policy. They can just start calling in the debts we owe, converting it to another currency. Problem is, once word gets out that the EU or the asian tigers no longer have faith in US currency, it devalues hard, and markets all over the world start crashing, as everyone else's investments start tanking. Not to mention, US consumers can no longer "afford" to import goods, and so their export markets feel the pain, too
        • ...I did several years ago now, showed that they would *have* to either become ruthlessly expansionist or engage in a lot of wars by around the 2012-14 time frame. Simple demographic pressures insist on it. They won't have the resources available to contain their own people by then, for example just fresh water will run out. They will have to export millions of people, tens of millions really. How that happens I don't know yet. Right now they are doing a lot, engineers, students, businessmen, etc, but they
  • We noticed something odd on our bank statement, my wife and I; that the Sheetz vs. McDonald's transactions she had were messed up - in that her receipts had dollar 2 for store A and dollar 1 for store B when it should have been 1 for A and 2 for B. It just seemed weird that they were mixed up and we're calling today particularly to make sure each store got paid the correct amount.

--thanks, that is an interesting observation. That looks like a DB error, because I doubt any of that is touched by a human after the POS entry. Would be rather devastating if it started to creep, a stealth slow virus thing.
