There was a story somewhere (can't find the links now, sorry) claiming that the type of bat that is normally the host for COVID-19 virus does not live in the area, so it is unlikely those bats were for sale on the local market, hence the theory above.
Any weapon that kills old and frail, but leaves younger combat aged people largely without symptoms is a shitty weapon. Thus, I find it unlikely it was lab made.
