Submission + - Toyota yields to Apple over jailbroken phones (wired.com)

zakkie writes: "Toyota has caved to pressure from Apple and pulled custom themes from jailbroken iPhones. According to ModMyi.com founder Kyle Matthews, a representative of Toyota's ad agency said that Toyota gave in to Apple's request in order to "maintain their good relationship with Apple", and amounted to a direct attack by Apple on jailbroken iPhones."

Submission + - Ford's new radar technology based on Open Source (bbc.co.uk) 1

zakkie writes: "Ford is releasing new safety-enhancing radar equipment for its new Taurus sedan. The radar itself is based on F22 fighter radar but interestingly it's claimed that the software is built from open source. What that may mean in the vague waffling context of the article is unclear, but it's interesting simply because they've gone to the effort of stating it in those words. Clearly "open source" is being thought of outside the IT world as a good thing, and that surely is itself a good thing."

Submission + - Second Google Desktop vulnerability uncovered

zakkie writes: "According to InfoWorld, Google's Desktop indexing engine is vulnerable to an exploit (the second such flaw to be found) that could allow crackers to read files or execute code. By exploiting a cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability on Google.com, an attacker can grab all the data off a Google Desktop. Google is said to be "investigating"."
