If you, for a moment, consider money in the most abstract and fundamental way, I think you'll realize that crypto currency is money. If for some reason pink and yellow paper became the most scarce material on Earth, Monopoly money would start being treated as actual money. There's a huge difference between ALLOWING special characters and REQUIRING special characters. Allowing them increases the password entropy, but REQUIRING them actually decreases the password entropy because the hacking algorithm now KNOWS you MUST be using a special character somewhere in your password. Consider the possibility that they might have had a different business model than simply "customer buys pass, company makes money". Google is free, FM radio is free, Robinhood is free. There's a reason why these companies stay in business.
