Comment Re:Going to get modded down as sexist for this, bu (Score 1) 690

Listen, dude. Girls are smart. They're scary-smart. I know some seriously smart girls. But that's anecdotal. Here's a fact: a brain cell is a brain cell is a brain cell. Neurons don't care what their sex is. That's just stupid. If a girl can't do something as well as her male peers, all other things being equal, it's because it's been drilled into her that she shouldn't, or can't. And, the ones doing the drilling aren't all misogynists. In our society, women as just as likely as men to do it (if not more).

I know you're a troll. I know it. But I just can't leave this kind of nonsense hanging around where people can see it without at least one sane answer. With your first sentence, you're doing the exact opposite of what you later suggest as your solution--i.e. sensationalising bad news. No, really, you're sensationalising: because the single fucking most important point is this: how many of the Chinese victims survived the knife attack? Read your own article for the answer: `The editor of the local newspaper which first reported the story said none of the children had injuries severe enough to threaten their lives.' So: all of them. Now how many of the Newtown victims survived the gun attack?

Plenty of people still do it. The Internet is full of software in online repos/code sharing sites that was presumably put there for anyone to use but doesn't even have a licence [sic] attached....

Legally, all this code available online is treated as all rights reserved ... so anyone who's savvy about copyright law is not using it. So it's all just sitting there doing nothing.

There are plenty of copyleft and `public domain' licenses. If people really wanted to release something in a non-viral, permissive license, they would find ways to re-implement functionality they needed instead of taking it from GPL code. Make no mistake: people chose to use the GPL.

`Public threat' ... ? Are you serious? He said if elected, as a representative of his country, he would take military action against US aircraft invading his country's airspace and killing his civilians. Is it still a crime to destroy US property if said property is killing civilians in a foreign country?

Submission + - IBM Reports Carbon Nanotube Chip Breakthrough (nytimes.com)

yawaramin writes: IBM has apparently made a breakthrough in arranging carbon nanotubes into the logic gates necessary to make a chip. This should help miniaturise and speed up processors beyond what today's silicon-based technologies are capable of. The article notes though that perfecting the carbon nanotube technology could take up the rest of this decade.
