Somewhere between 4,000 and 5,000 birds rained down on the small town of Beeb, Arkansas, with no visible trauma. Officials are making wild guesses as to what happened — lightning strike, high-altitude hail, or perhaps trauma from the sound of New Year's fireworks killed them."
New Zealand Government Opens UFO Files 100

Helpfully, the NZ newspaper The Dominion Post has scanned the documents and has made them available online. Among the accounts of alien encounters and strange lights in the sky is one of New Zealand's most famous UFO mystery: the Kaikoura sighting. But was it aliens? Probably not, but it makes for an entertaining read."

I'm hoping for research into (I forgot what they're called) "honeycomb" networks that are basically internets without a backbone. Sort of an amateur radio internet. I don't really care if I can stream video. I just want to be sure I can get wikileaks and Slashdot.
Mesh. Mesh networks. Basically, your personal device becomes a node and a router. Traffic is distributed and routed by the members of the network itself.

I'm surprised nobody has put a virus on the graphics card. If the PCI is multi-mastered (not uncommon on higher-end machines), then the card could control all the other devices without going through the OS at all, giving a virus that could inhabit that space ABSOLUTE power over the machine.
