Comment Linux to Printers (Score 1) 95

If I remember right you could take the retail WAD file and replace the WAD file on the linux version and have the full game.It was pretty sweet as you didn't have to fight with the memory in MS-DOS. I remember creating a RAM drive and running the game from there and it ran like butter even on my 386DX 33mhz. I also had the Sega 32x version later. Seeing people port this game to everything with a chip in it has been just amazing. Modern Vintage Gamer has a great video on this https://ancillary-proxy.atarimworker.io?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3F...

Comment Re:Expensive proxy cards (Score 1) 70

I quit Magic about two years ago as their predatory practices started interfering with the game too much. They are selling 4 packs for $999. These cards are not legal in any format and most stores will not let you use them in games. They are "collector items" I guess. A funny thing is the card pool in these packs include a lot of cards that would be worth nothing even they were real.

In the last few years they seem to be on a quest to suck as much money out of their product as they can, at the expense of the game in the long term. Typical capitalism. I am sure many 'Bobs" that work there are making bank and will move on when they see the ship sinking. Just my two cents.

Really not a fan of the court having ISPs redirect domains to other domains."The domain addresses and any NewlyDetected Websites shall be channeled in such a way that users will be unable to connect and/or use the Website, and will be diverted by the ISPs’ DNS servers to a landing page operated and controlled by Plaintiffs" varies per domain.

Comment Break up the phone companies again. (Score 1) 134

I have to keep my cell phone in DND with it set to allow people on my contact list to still ring. The ogolopy of phone companies have to have the power to actually deal with this better than they are. Who in the the hell in the USA, besides the phone companies maybe?, doesn't want them to deal with this better? Wasn't shaken/stir suppose to address people spoofing numbers?

I will give gmail props for being quite amazing at filtering spam I suspect they are over 99% effective with almost no false positives in my own experience. I know this is stepping back in time but the damn USPS sends me about 90% spam and I really need that to end. That is just more stuff I have to throw in the trash and don't we have some global warming thing we need to address? Stop sending me trash.

Comment It is almost like they are a monopoly... (Score 1) 160

it is also curious how they manage to have faster speeds and better prices when someone like Google Fiber shows up in a neighborhood but never before that competition shows up. It is almost like they could have offered it the whole time but just didn't have the incentive to, but I am sure that could not be the case otherwise they would be a monopoly suppressing innovation and progress.

Hey why not use this same system to allow the screen and/or sounds to be disabled in movie theaters. How about infrared for police to unlock your phone or decrypt items. Why stop there the device has WiFi and Bluetooth let's use that too. How about I don't buy something designed where someone else can control it with infrared or any other method in contradiction of my wishes.

I still have my PS3. I used YDL at one point then I had the insane idea of installing gentoo. The emerge world command took over 24 hours from what I remember due to Sony locking out most of the CPU cores. I won't bother trying to get my $55. Not sure what kind of proof I could come up with. I damn sure don't have my receipt from when I bought it or any proof it had Linux on it at one point, besides the fact I am not sure it is worth my time...

Comment Microsoft will wins again... (Score 1) 224

Microsoft has done many things that were monopolistic, illegal, patent infringing, etc. They get sued, eventually they loose typically but by the time they have to stop and/or pay up it is 5 to 15 years down the road and the path they took let them take an entire market, eliminate a competitor etc. DR-DOS, RealPlayer, Internet Explorer and many other examples that anyone can google. Even if the EU, US or whatever comes down on them they will profit from this and hold or increase their market share... At least that is what has always happened.
