Comment Infected FOSS (Score 1) 37

"infected FOSS that requires high-frequency mouse data, like creative apps or video games" - sounds like fiction written by some AI, that had access to old and just partial history of IT. Who even uses in same sentence terms like "creative app" and "video game". One is from a kid waiting to get his hands on an Iphone, other from a 60 year old who has never seen a first person shooter but pondering about phosphor coatings burnin on his screen.

Comment Think about the children! (Score 1) 183

Think what they could do! Can you polish a shells inside with your porkfingers? No, so we must have children join the workforce and compete with China. And women, they must serve and produce. All in the glory of more money for CEOs. He forgot some other business growth opportunities, that for some weird reason were discontinued 80 years ago.

Comment Re:I reject cookies every time it pops up (Score 4, Interesting) 102

To reject some of those popups you have to unclick 100 small checkboxes. That need to be opened each, scrolled like tens of meters down, takes some 5 minutes to do. Comes with text "lawful reasons" or similar, from the top of my head. Those are the worst. Can't adblock those by default for all incoming not yet visited sites, AFAIK.

Comment Vendor lock in (Score 3, Insightful) 45

That's what this is called and they know it and use it. Have seen it in real work situation with a different vendor. 5 times the subscription price when we needed to move an application to a different server due to OS and infra upgrades. If your technicians are smart enough, you must move away from such "partners". Yes, will cost a bit more that year, but still cheaper longterm.

Comment Re:Two party consent (Score 3, Insightful) 34

Not sure about Iphones, but all Androids I could record calls on, with exactly the issue of recording both sides (thanks Google for making choices instead of me), could record mic only and the other sides audio leaked through the phone body to mic easily. Yes, not as loud as wished, but undoubtedly clear what the talk was. So this argument would almost surely not hold in reality.

Comment Teenage gangs and gateway crime? (Score 3, Insightful) 56

Was there any example of a gang even mentioned? No. Crime? It is as much crime as crawling over a fence to get some apples. No need to overblow it out of proportions. What needs to be done instead - proper, basic security measures. Main one - proper password handling by teachers, who shoud be at least at basic IT level. Secondly proper IT staff and software, not something that can be hacked with a screwdriver or Notepad. Children will play, just like pups will dig and bite until they grow up and understand. If you leave your systems blatantly insecure, it is your fault, not childrens.

Comment Re:What could possibly go wrong? (Score 3, Insightful) 34

They don't believe in AI. They believe in hyped tool to hide corruption behind it. That is a deliberate action, that will secure another term and a steady stream of money. Simple as that. Dictators and wannabies have been doing this for ages with new and shiny nobodycanverify tools, miracles of their time.

Comment Correlation is not causation (Score 1) 60

That is something a first year student and any journalist should know. Adding to that - survey, with how many participants? Sounds like just some minutes more sitting causes drammatic increase of hemorrhoids risk, sounds not plausible to me, especially when no info on how much other type sitting the people do. This article about shitting is shit itself.
