men cause the ring of fat

  • From TFA: "A UK obesity expert has analysed why it is that women who move in with their man often put on weight as a result."

Well, since they already have a man and the security and comfort that comes with cohabitation, they no longer have a need to keep up their appearances. This is a VERY broad generalization I have seen happen time and time again, although luckily for me the woman I married does not subscribe to this line of thinking :-)

No I haven't read the article (damn getting called from PC t

    • That exception is my wife... When I met her (not yet my wife, was reported in a slashdot JE), I dubber her "ChubbyGirl". I later changed that because I was told it was offensive (I never considered "Chubby" offensive, but hey, that's probably just me). She was (is) on a strict diet, and moved in with me and we married last June/July (depending on what wedding you find more important).

She never stopped her diet, and she got my support. All the time. I never stopped supporting her, and I support her ev

      • She looked very good in the wedding photos...

But does she exercise? That in itself is a larger contributing factor in getting lean than diet alone...at least in my experience...

She shouldn't be afraid of the heavy weights or high-intensity stuff...if anythying it will probably make her leaner. Not necessarily lighter, but leaner...

        • Well, my dear tuxette: she looks stunning and she is very pretty. Even when she was "more chubby". The wedding photos were already after the loss of over 10kg (may be more, I'm not getting into details) The people doing the wedding dress were pretty pissed because she got a "larger model" and they had to adapt it all the way back to "normal".
She doesn't excercise in the same way as you, but makes sure she gets more "movement" (somehow I don't find the appropriate English word... *sigh*) So, we go walk
          • Heh...you two should consider doing a martial arts class together (Krav Maga especially, but whatever else) training together. It's so much fun, and good exercise, and you meet new and interesting people. It's OK that you may not be in so great shape at first...it comes quite quickly. And it's really worth the effort...

And I agree... cooking is fun and relaxing. Most of the time anyway ;-)

            • That teacher gig is eating a lot of my "free" time. This year I'm not getting into any extra activities. When I have more free time, I might but 2005/2006 are booked ;-)
She first wanted me to go to swim with her, but luckily enough she understood that this doesn't go well with my schedule.
              • I destroyed my shoulders with distance swimming/water polo, but now that I've started Krav Maga, my shoulders have actually started getting "better," so I'm considering doing some hardcore swimming again...

Swimming is fun and great exercise... (says a penguinette hahahaha)

    • ...though I have always been kind of shabby so there's nothing to keep up :-P

My weight has remained relatively stable over the past 10+ years, with and without boyfriend of tuxette, though I've gotten a lot leaner over the past few years due to a different approach to exercise - more weightlifting with much heavier weights, high-intensity exercise, etc. I'd like to weigh less so that I don't kill my knees when I run, though not at the expense of muscle loss. Maybe it will happen, maybe not...

      Oh, and I d

    • I have seen too many women (either co-workers, old high school friends, etc...) who keep themselves up and then after getting married or into a serious long-term releationship (ie, they are more or less permanent co-habitants) almost become a different person. They gain a good amount of weight, stop working out, stop dressing up, less make-up, etc...

Before I met her, apparently my wife was rather chubby to the point that it really bothered her, and everyone in her immediate family is well above average in
  • If I move in with Some Guy, do I get to retroactively blame him for my weight? :^)
  • I know this couple, who have lived together for some time. They are both happy with eachother, and with themselves. They have both gained a great deal of weight, and - in part - they both relate this to being together.

    They are women.

So, what I'm saying here, is it might not be a man thing. Maybe it's a couple thing.

  • People are too thin these days. I demand more brea... fat!

The reason computer chips are so small is computers don't eat much.
