Journal tomhudson's Journal: [WII] The first week ... 12

Prev: Wii - Take 2 | Next: Boom Blox and Mario Party 8

So, to celebrate getting all the hardware and software working (hey, this project was started in 2006 and burned out several programmers) I bought some more WII stuff. Then to celebrate today's court stuff, I checked on my way home to see if they had a Wii FIT in stock - and they had just gotten 15 of them! So, picked up that, and even MORE stuff.

So, this is what Nintendo has clipped me for since Saturday:

  • Wii console with controller, nunchuk, Wii Sports
  • 3 extra controllers
  • 3 extra nunchuks
  • Wii balance board (Wii Fit) and software
  • 2 double recharging stations and 4 rechargeable battery packs
  • 1 Wii Fit rechargeable battery pack

So far, software includes:

  1. Boom Blox
  2. Game Party 2
  3. King of Clubs
  4. Legend of Zelda - Twilight Princess
  5. Lego Star Wars - The Complete Saga
  6. Mario Party 8
  7. Prince of Persia - Rival Swords
  8. Rampage - Total Destruction
  9. Super Mario Galaxy
  10. Super Paper Mario
  11. Wii Fit (bundled with the balance board)
  12. Wii Play (as part of a bundle with one of the controllers)
  13. Wii Sports (bundled witht he console)

Yes, there's going to be some fun gaming going on here this weekend.

[WII] The first week ...

  • I look forward to the after action report;-)
    • It's going to take a lot of time to work through all those games. Good thing I don't watch TV :-)

Mind you, remember how I wanted to buy a big-screen TV but ended up not "pulling the trigger" because I don't watch more than a couple of hours a year of TV? The wii is getting me to seriously rethink that. 50" plasma TVs are getting pretty darned cheap - the neighbour got one for under a grand - (and with a wii, it's not like you need 1920 x 1080, so why not buy a cheap 50" and wait a year for the LCDs to

      • A projector. :-P

        • A projector. :-P

I thought of that - a projector and a 108" screen would be under a grand nowadays, but you'd be standing between the projector and the screen to play, so Bowser would be running Super Mario up your rear end, where you can't see them ... okay if you're the goat guy or tubgirl I guess. Also, one of my daughters has a 60" Sony, and there seems to be a bit of a problem with mis-registration of controller movements on screens much over 50".

          • Good points. However, I got mine mounted in the ceiling (and mostly play sitting down in the sofa) and with a 70" screen haven't noticed any pointer problems. YMMV, of course.

            • I second this. My friend set their projector up on the ceiling with a retractable screen. So their living can be a perfect place for movies or games, or they retract the screen and its a nice place to sit and chat. Now if you have the projector mounted on such a way that its retractable into the attic lets say, now that's just gold that is!
              • Well, we DO have a projector and screen at the office ...

A few of my co-workers like the idea of me bringing it in so we can try it out there ... I'll probably do that before making a decision, unless a REALLY REALLY good sale comes by on another unit.

      • yikes. i work in A/V, and i can assure you that plasma burn-in is most definitely NOT a thing of the past. all of our plasmas have "start" buttons permanently etched into their screens.

        • The TV probably won't be on except to play games - I'm not much of a TV watcher (in fact, I've played more Wii in the last week, than all the TV I watched last year, and I only used it on the weekend). That's why I figure burn-in won't be that big a deal. Also, I'l probably run it well under its' top output, like my lcd (35%).

My current thinking is to buy a (more or less) cheapie 50" plasma, and let the 52" LCDs come down more in price over the next year. I don't need 1920x1080 - the Wii only puts out 4

  • I've had my wii for a while but I've been building up my stuff very, very slowly. In fact I got an Amazon gift certificate yesterday and ordered my 4th wiimote and Mario Pary 8. Next I'll get 2 nunchucks so that I have a full set.

Our only wii games are the sports that came with it and Ratatouille - which the kids got for Christmas from a grandparent. Mostly we play our gamecube games on it.

I want mario kart for the wii. I need to play it at my neighbors and see if the wheel makes much di

    • I'll try both Mario Party 8 and Boom Blox and let you know what I think:-) We'll be playing them tomorrow afternoon.

There's been a continual run on Wii stuff up here ever since it came out ... before, there were plenty of games and accessories, but no consoles, because they sold within hours of arrival. Now that consoles are pretty much available, instead of selling out within a couple of hours, they're actually *mostly* in stock, there's much more demand for accessories and product. I suspect a LOT of p

    • mario kart is AWESOME. simple, but fun and addictive. the wheel helps. i'd recommend it, but you can certainly play without it.
