I'm thinking about it. I checked the weather in Kelowna yesterday ...

Hear the one about the meteorologist who lost his job because the weather didn't agree with him?

  • Yeh... here in the Southern Hemisphere, we're a few weeks into autumn, and it's starting to get um... well... I guess it's not getting more anything really.
I've got two major weather forecasting sites. One says Sao Paulo* will experience a low of 18 and a high of 31 today, while the other says the low will be 20 and the high 29 (actually, it says 27, but it also says the current temperature, at nearly 14:00, is 29). So if I go out this evening to eat or go buy some stuff, I'll probably wear long pants an
    • Replying to my own post. Bad form, I know. I just wanted to mention that I do hope to be able to get to Chile this winter to do a little snowboardin'. And I'm glad I grew up in a place that had snow days, but now I see cold places as "nice to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there."
FWIW, I grew up in Maine and spent 4 years in Chicago. After 13 years in Maine, I thought I knew what cold was, and then I moved to Chicago and learned about cold. I don't miss that kind of cold even a little bit, though
      • If you've lived in Chicago, you still haven't experienced a real winter ;-)

Montreal is colder than either Moscow or St. Petersburg. A Chicago January average nighttime low is our average daytime high. To give you an idea, after days of rain, and daytime temperatures well above freezing, there's still over a foot of snow in the back yard.

Try Circle, AK. Not just cold for months, but Dark.
          • With a population of 100 people, and the median income of the men at $0.00, and women at $23k, why don't they just pull up stakes?

Oh right, they won't be able to live the "traditional way", with the guys sitting around doing nothing while the women do all the work ...

I guess with such a small gene pool, the only reason it's self-sustaining is because it IS dark for months at a time. It reminds me of the explorer who always insisted that this ugly old woman accompany him on his explorations. She never c

    • They should fix slashcode to allow html entities for extended characters. It's not like many of us can't figure out how to do it, just like we do the < & > tags.

  • A coworker reminded me a few days ago that this is the same type of weather we had in 1992.

here in the midwest there was lots of flooding along the mississippi and illinois rivers.

then at the end of the year Hurricane Andrew hit FLA
  • I feel for those of you who still have snow on the ground ... well not really.

Though to be fair we had snow here two weeks ago. Actually we've had much more snow than is common here this year though thankfully we haven't gotten a bunch at once and what we've gotten has melted fairly quickly.
