Ok, so in your analogy you suggest hiring a repairman without a contract then having the other party actually agress (sleeping with the wife) as opposed to sleeping with the repairman's wife (Russia invading Ukraine in 2014)... Yeah, I think your analogy is much less apt.

The 'promise' may have averted a sharpening of conflict, but Russia invading in 2014 and Georgia in 2008 might have sharpened things a bit, don't you think? Plus, we've pointed out it wasn't a binding promise. You still haven't rebutted that fact.

security options don't exist in a vacuum and Ukraine doesn't get to expand its security at Russian expense by becoming a forwards operating base for their self-declared enemies.

So there it is. Ukrainian people aren't as valid or human as Russians... You are one of the best Russian information (propaganda) officers I have encountered. Good day, sir.

I think we can agree that the US shouldn't have invaded Iraq or bombed Yugoslavia among other things, but as terrible as that was it doesn't justify or excuse what Russia is doing. Invading because the didn't like their neighbors thinking for themselves is as bad or worse than 'WMDs in Iraq!'

For your first point: What we have all been telling you, and you have been ignoring, is that some assurances may have been offered at some point but did not show up in the final and formal agreements. That means the supposed promise you point out has no weight. Also, I'm not sure that violence is the correct response to a broken misconceived promise. If I promise to give you a ham sandwich but don't give you one, that would make me a dick. But if you punch me because of it, in most countries, that is considered assault and is illegal and immoral.

For your second point, maybe Russia should have honored the Budapest Memorandum in 2014?

My point is that if enough of the good people of Slovakia wanted to, they could have gotten enough signatures to hold a referendum. It looks like they didn't. And if they actually had a referendum, they would likely have had popular support to join NATO anyway, so complaining that something didn't go the way you wanted isn't going to make it historically true.
Secondly, I'm sorry the cost is more than you thought it would be, but hindsight is 20/20. I'm sure looking back Georgia and Ukraine may have reconsidered their position on joining NATO.

I like how you ignored it was both a referendum to join or NOT join then left this part out:

An opinion poll carried out at that time by Slovak Radio showed that 47.2 per cent of citizens supported NATO entry, while 39.1 per cent opposed it. A different survey performed by the Polis Slovakia agency at around the same time found that 60 per cent were in favour and 25 per cent were against. l

Interesting, because I'm not finding any evidence of Slovakia being forced to join (other than maybe fear of being coerced by Russia government). Did you have any evidence? one has to wonder at the extent of blackmail that had been going on there.

Not really. All you have to do is convince 12 people of whatever you want. I mean look at how many people were fooled into thinking it was a good idea to try to overthrow an election result violently based on manufactured falsehoods. That's usually not a good idea, but they were convinced. I wouldn't count on court cases deciding science.
